Just to prove that not all my pictures are full of concrete monoliths. These beach huts at Southwold look like a cosy place to spend a miserable rainy day, except that for some inexplicable reason they’re all facing away from the sea. I read recently that one of these was for sale for £250,000. I would want it facing the sea for that sort of money. by @seanperry
Need a pop of colour on this grey misty morning? This is a detail of the paintwork from the Mersey ferry “Everybody Razzle Dazzle” created by Sir Peter Blake, who also designed the Sgt Pepper album cover. I took this picture a few years back and I’m looking forward to another trip soon. I’ve been told it’s traditional to order a cup of tea on board then stick a tot of rum in it. Who am I to argue with tradition? by @seanperry
Another Dungeness home. I’ve noticed the light can shift quite quickly at Dungeness and totally change the look of an image. This is so soft and film-like compared to other pictures taken on the same day. No presets, that’s pretty much how it came out of the camera. by @seanperry
Interior views of Preston Bus Station. These white ceramic tiles make a perfect geometric backdrop for this photo booth, information signs and other fittings. It’s a wonderfully functional look that suggests (to me anyway) order, cleanliness and reliability. That’s just the sort of subliminal message you need when it’s tipping down with rain and your bus is late. by @seanperry
Boat yard, Ratcliffe on Soar. It will probably be a while before we see cloudless blue skies like this again. I’m missing summer already, and we’ve only had less than a day of Greenwich Mean Time (aka British Winter Time). Sigh. by @seanperry
Public Service Announcement: The clocks go back 1 hour in the UK at 2am tomorrow. At least we can have an extra hour in bed in the morning as some small compensation for the dark nights ahead. Goodbye British Summertime, we’ll see you again in 2027. by @seanperry
Park Hill vs The Point With both Milton Keynes and Sheffield being shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2029 (along with Blackpool and Wrexham) could it come down to a battle between these two iconic buildings? And who would win? by @seanperry
Another reason why I love Dungeness is that you often stumble across interesting architecture that contrasts with its surroundings. This corrugated shed has obviously been there for years but shows signs that it is still being used. The wildflowers surrounding the building are ubiquitous throughout Dungeness and thrive in the shingle landscape. by @seanperry
Coastguard Lookout, Dungeness. Built in the 1950’s, the tower’s original purpose was to monitor shipping. It is now a holiday let. I can’t think of a more amazing place to spend a weekend, but it’s probably way out of my price range. by @seanperry
This staircase at the Southbank Centre in London is probably ‘the’ iconic yellow concrete staircase, if such a category exists. And if it doesn’t exist, why not? The world needs more yellow concrete. by @seanperry
A perfectly ordinary slice of everyday life against the slightly unreal backdrop of Dungeness B nuclear power station. Probably my favourite of all the images I’ve taken at Dungeness, even though it doesn’t fit my normal style of work. The main focus of the picture is in the background and ironically out of focus. It’s not how I normally do things but I think it works in this instance. by @seanperry
Museum of Liverpool. I’m never quite sure whether I like this style of architecture. It’s certainly a bold design and very imposing, but I generally prefer my lines to be orthogonal so this building gives me all sorts of anxieties. It’s also difficult to get a whole building view and take in all the angles, so I went with this view. I normally avoid having people in my pictures, but I think in this instance they break up the lines and add a well needed pop of colour. by @seanperry
