TOMORROW! @lessalonefest at @wallerscoffeeshop with all of our *other* best buds. Funds from that show benefit Waller's directly. It's just a big 'ol fest with great buds at our favorite coffee shop and DIY space.

41. When I decided I wanted to be in rock 'n' roll bands at Harrison High School in early 2002, it was a simple question of economics. Using supply and demand to my benefit, I saw everyone else was getting into guitar (or bass, as a fallback) and chose to play drums instead. Even if I sucked (I argued to myself), I'd have a better shot of joining a band because there weren't a lot of us to choose from. "Y'all are kind of stuck with me, because I'm all you've got," was my basic thought. It would be a few years before I joined my first real band, but the choice ultimately worked out.

24 years later and this was one of the most important decisions I've ever made. I cannot remember how many parties, vacations, career advancements, or perhaps other "major life events" I've skipped for practices, shows, or tours. I've currently got 4 active bands, with records and shows in the works for all of them. It is an *unbelievable* amount of work and time, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've gotten to make art with my best friends for over half my life, if only because there aren't enough drummers to go around. 😉 Either way, I do not take a second of this life for granted.

I feel like the luckiest man alive with the best family, partner, and friends in the world. Honestly, it's not even close. Though I haven't traveled or read as much this last year, I'm determined to make more time for both next year. And I look forward to record collecting, eating good food, having good conversation, going to sleep earlier, and thinking about old buildings, as always.

For those keeping track, I have not lost my water bottle(s) or sanity this year, but I did have to borrow a cap for one water bottle because I couldn't easily hold the broken attachment when I walked. My Casio watch might have finally stopped working properly, so we'll see if I get a new one today. I've asked. 👀 I've also asked for a donkey, but I don't think I'll get that...yet.

Here's a picture for every set I'm gonna play today.

Happy Birthday to @criminalrecords, where I'll play a set with The Compartmentalizationalists at 3:30 and a set with @smallreactions at 4:30.

From there, it'll be a set with @gentleman_jesse w/ @realtedleo at @badearl.

Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since @smallreactions dropped their amazing record ‘New Age Soul!’

“It’s hard to believe 5 years went by as quickly as it has! We released our second record, RXN_002, in August 2017, and started what would become New Age Soul the following year. Shortly after starting the album, we went from a quartet down to a trio, which is how we ended up finishing the album. As an added challenge, we recorded the bulk of it in the midst of the pandemic, isolated in far-off corners of a big studio here in Atlanta. Maze Studios was our home off and on for several years and our buddy, Ben Etter, was our shepherd, keeping the whole thing together. We like to cut live, so finding a way to do that at a distance was a fun experiment. 95% of what you hear is Scotty, Ross, and Sean locked in a room (at a distance) with Ben cleaning up our mess in producing, engineering, and mixing the album. We’re incredibly proud of the New Age Soul, especially considering the hurdles that come along with making records at the height of the pandemic and through life in a general sense. We’re also especially proud of the relationship we’ve built with SofaBurn over the last 5 years. Truly the best group of folks we could hope for. “ - @seanzearfoss

I just put out 129 hardcore, punk, and (a smaller amount of) emo 7"s at @criminalrecords. An *exceptionally* nice collection with nothing under VG+. Not sure when we'll see another collection like this, so jump on it. Your dad wants Discharge for Father's Day, or maybe you do, as a dad or non-dad. Truly, not my business how you spend your day or money.
