Ok, Bird Gang, let’s bring the pigeon back!
Our mission at VURT Creative has always been to beautify and transform public spaces through the power of art. What once was a large pigeon mural on Front Street is now merely a small, cheeky remnant of the Prince of Front Street’s former glory. So, with your help, we are striving to bring back not one, but TWO pigeon murals to Philadelphia (one in Graduate Hospital and another in Kensington).
This is the part where we humbly ask for your help.
There are two ways to help us bring these murals to life:
🐦 Donate directly to our GiveButter fundraising campaign
🐦 Purchase a Bird Gang Tshirt (designed by muralist Evan Lovett, the artist who brought us the original pigeon mural, “The Prince of Front Street”)

All proceeds from the donation page and T-shirt sales go towards bringing these murals to fruition. The links to both of these are in the linktree in our bio.

This year I chose to create themes within the usual theme: The Strange being the otherworldly, death defying crew while The Familiar acts as a link between their world and ours.

These two wolves don’t live inside of me, they live inside of @houndstoothtattoo

This also serves as a great opportunity to show a 6-7 year difference between embroideries. As I progressed with my embroidery practice, I started to really focus in on hyper realism. My favorite part of the Earl Gray (the embroidery on the bottom in case you are not acquainted with Earl), is nailing the subtle houndstooth pattern on his tie. And maybe the texture on that blazer. A practice is called that for a reason, bc it’s legit that. I’ve been sewing almost every evening for over a decade, at this point.

Just a little morsel to tide you over as I’ve been working overtime behind the scenes to make a number of things happen that aren’t quite ready to share in this space.

✨BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE✨
Painted by the girl (now a woman), who got to do just that.
This is my third summer and third installment of murals at Ralph Steinhauer Elementary in Maple Shade, NJ. This year, my task was to paint a “welcome wall” for students- this is a door a lot of them use to enter school for the day, so they wanted the students to be greeted with a fitting motto. We thought a simple “Welcome” was far too generic, so I asked if there was any unofficial motto they have at the school. Principal Edwards pointed out that the one thing that differentiates them is how many extracurriculars they off their students: from podcasting to STEM to peer counseling and various sports (and so much more). He said that they encourage each child to celebrate and embrace who they truly are. A few days after our initial meeting, they came back to me with “be who you want to be,” which I thought was absolutely perfect.
I feel so fortunate to work with this school again and to help perpetuate this awesome message to their students. Thanks again for your trust, Steinhauer Elementary!
