the blue-tongue babies are all grown up now and they don’t need ruth to keep an eye on them, so she’s been looking after a tomato she found that fell from the garden beds, sitting with it every day as it ripens. thanks ruth 🫡 taken in Redesdale, Victoria, Australia by @seapain

blue tongue update : turns out ruth was being extra protective of our resident bluey because actually she’s been looking after blue tongue babies under the deck. big babies. there’s two that we’ve seen so far, but apparently they can have around 14 or 15! a few days ago the mother bluey started bringing them out into the sun in the afternoon, one at a time. more recently they’ve been venturing out by themselves. ruth remains vigilant taken in Castlemaine, Victoria by @seapain

every year around mid/late spring we have a couple of blue-tongues reappear from wherever they’ve been during the cold weather. we hear them under the deck, or crawling around under the dry oak leaves. and every afternoon during this time, from now through til summer, ruth lies here and waits for the blue tongue to come out and warm itself on the concrete, and then stays there watching it or looking out for it for hours, until it crawls back under the deck. never goes down from the step, never bothers it, because she’s a gentle soul. taken in Castlemaine, Victoria by @seapain
