When I found out that Shatter Me was published back in 2011, I couldn’t believe my eyes. How on earth did this book only reach me now?!
Either way, it forced me to dive back into the dystopian genre, and it was only while reading that I realized how much I had missed this world. The story pulled me in immediately and simply wouldn’t let go.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading it, even if it wasn’t completely without its flaws. At times, I had a bit of an issue with the main protagonist, Juliette, and her occasionally naive behavior. I can’t help but think that if I had picked up the book a few years earlier—back when I was devouring The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner—I would have experienced it on an even deeper level. Even so, it’s a great ride that I can highly recommend to fans of the genre.

Když jsem zjistila, že Shatter Me (Jsem Roztříštěná) vyšlo už v roce 2011, nemohla jsem věřit vlastním očím. Jak je možné, že se ke mně tahle kniha dostala až teď?!
Každopádně mě přinutila znovu se ponořit do dystopického žánru, a teprve při čtení mi došlo, jak moc mi tenhle svět chyběl. Příběh mě okamžitě vtáhl do děje a jednoduše už nepustil.
Celkově jsem si čtení moc užila, i když to nebylo úplně bez výhrad. Občas jsem měla trochu problém s hlavní hrdinkou Juliette a jejím, občas naivním chováním. Říkám si, že mít knihu v rukách o pár let dříve – v době, kdy jsem hltala Hunger Games nebo Labyrint – prožila bych ji ještě o kousek víc. I tak jde ale o skvělou jízdu, kterou fanouškům žánru můžu jen doporučit.

Metal Slinger was a wild ride.
I’ve heard so many good reviews about this one, so I decided to give it a try and…oh damn… I have sooo many thoughts!
Let me start from the beginning. I expected a classic romantasy, and in a way, it was.
The worldbuilding was smooth and easy to follow, and honestly, I wouldn’t mind diving even deeper into it. The pacing was fast, making it really difficult to put the book down.
I did have a slight issue with some of the common tropes that felt a bit cliché. But hey, it’s romantasy, and at least the author didn’t build the entire story around them (which is usually my biggest pet peeve with this genre). So overall, I was enjoying it, and then the end hit...
THE END
Oh, it left me gasping for breath! I had read a few reviews beforehand, so I knew something big was coming. But at no point did I expect this…
I won’t say anything else in case you haven’t read it yet and want to give it a try. You will thank me later… or maybe curse me.
Even though it was a great read, I still can’t shake the feeling that the book’s full potential wasn’t entirely realized.

Metal Slinger byla neskutečná jízda.
Slyšela jsem na tuhle knížku spoustu chvály, tak jsem se rozhodla jí dát šanci a… panejo, mám z ní tolik pocitů!
Ale vezmeme to od začátku.

Worldbuilding byl promyšlený a lehce pochopitelný. Upřímně bych se do toho světa klidně ponořila ještě hlouběji. Děj měl rychlý spád, takže bylo vážně těžké knihu odložit.
Měla jsem sice menší problém s některými klišé tropami, ale hej, je to romantasy. Navíc na nich autorka naštěstí nepostavila celý příběh (což mi často u romantasy vadí). Takže celkový dojem byl super… a pak přišel konec.
TEN KONEC.
Vyrazil mi dech. Už předtím jsem četla pár recenzí, takže mi bylo jasné, že se chystá něco velkého. Ale ani v nejmenším jsem nečekala tohle…
Víc už neprozradím pro případ, že jste knížku ještě nečetli a chcete do ní jít s čistou hlavou. Poděkujte…neb by @seasick.reader

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who reached out after my last post. Your kindness touched me deeply and reminded me that there are wonderful people here. 🥹🫶
I’m doing fine, but I needed some time off to process a few things. When I created this account, I wanted to yap about books, make friends, and enjoy a shared passion. But lately, bookstagram has started to feel like a toxic environment.
After attending a few events and talking to people both online and offline, I was heartbroken to see how much animosity, competition, and fake behavior is hidden behind the “supportive community” label. Many readers turned out to be two-faced and shockingly harsh.
I found myself falling into the trap of checking numbers, reading popular books, and feeling constant pressure. That’s not why I came here.
That’s also why I want to switch things up just a bit. I’d love to make this account a little more personal. It won’t be strictly about book reviews anymore; I want to occasionally share other things that bring me joy and just keep it real, even if it might be at the expense of numbers.

Moji milí námořníci a sirény,
v první řadě moc děkuji všem, kteří mi po mém posledním příspěvku napsali. Vaše laskavost mě hluboce dojala a připomněla mi, že jsou zde i úžasní lidé. 🥹🫶
Mám se fajn, ale potřebovala jsem na chvíli vypnout, abych si srovnala pár věcí v hlavě. Když jsem si tenhle účet zakládala, chtěla jsem kecat o knihách, hledat kamarády a sdílet společnou vášeň. V poslední době ale bookstagram začal působit jako docela toxické prostředí.
Poté, co jsem navštívila pár akcí a mluvila s lidmi online i offline, mi zlomilo srdce, když jsem viděla, kolik nevraživosti, soutěživosti a falešného chování se skrývá za nálepkou „podporující komunity“. Spousta čtenářů se ukázala být drsná a téměr nepřátelská.

Sama jsem se chytila do pasti sledování čísel, čtení populárních knih, jejichž hype jsem úplně nepochopila a tlaku. Kvůli tomu jsem si ale účet nezakládala. To je také důvod, proč chci věci trochu změnit. Ráda bych z tohoto účtu udělala o něco osobnější místo. by @seasick.reader
