The ninth artist joining this year's Form Over Function is Amy Erickson!🎨

Amy Erickson is a painter and educator currently based in Providence, RI. She holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and is pursuing her MFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she is a RISD Fellow and recipient of the Nicolette Ausschnitt Scholarship.

Her recent exhibitions include Figurativas 2025 at European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, Assemble23* at Tregony Gallery in Truro, UK, and a solo show at Figure Ground Gallery in Seattle.

Amy has taught observational drawing and painting through a range of independent platforms, including Townsend Atelier (Chattanooga, TN), Warrior Art Camp (Pasadena, CA), and the Modern Color Atelier (Seattle, WA). Upcoming workshops in 2025 include sessions at the Manifest Drawing Center (Cincinnati, OH) and Alia Fine Arts Center (Raleigh, NC).

In addition to the Four Pillars Residency, she has been awarded residency fellowships at both the Vermont Studio Center and the Vashon Artist Residency. Her work has been featured in Booooooom’s Tomorrow’s Talent Vol. 4 and the literary and arts journal Sixth Finch.

We are delighted to have her work in the gallery this fall, and can’t wait for you to see it!

Seth and I recently visited the studio of one of this year's new Form Over Function artists, Michael Doyle🎨✨

Michael is a self-taught, Seattle-based painter and illustrator who's been at it for twenty years, painting figures inspired by classic cinema, old books, and Pacific Northwest textures in acrylic gouache. He calls his style a "wink and nod" to something slower and more human.

Michael's studio in Seattle’s Denny Park neighborhood was a treat to visit and peek into his creative world.

So excited to welcome his work to the gallery this fall.

The eighth artist joining this year's Form Over Function is Zachary Schomburg!🎨

Zachary Schomburg is a painter and poet based in Portland, Oregon. Working primarily with acrylics, he draws inspiration from the vibrant energy and dynamic compositions of artists like Helen Frankenthaler and Etel Adnan. For Schomburg, painting is an act of letting go—an ongoing practice of embracing surprise and listening to the paint itself.

In addition to his visual art, Schomburg is a poet and the author of six books of poems, a novel, and the founder of an independent poetry press. His creative practice spans both mediums, with a deep commitment to storytelling through both words and imagery. Schomburg lives in Portland with his partner B and their child, Y, where he continues to explore the connections between language, art, and the natural world around him.

We can’t wait for you to see his figurative work this fall!

We recently visited the studio of Kade Marsili, a returning artist in this year's Form Over Function exhibition, for the next stop in our studio visit series featuring the artists of the show.

Kade's work explores identity and intimacy from a queer perspective, with intimate moments and gestures rendered in glowing, vivid color.

We're thrilled to have his work back in the gallery this fall and can’t wait for you to experience it with us.

We are thrilled to announce the seventh artist joining this year's Form Over Function: Kimberly Trowbridge🎨

Kimberly is a visual artist who combines painting, sculpture, language, and site-specific research. She received an MFA from the University of Washington (2006). Her first solo museum show at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (2021) was developed during her time as Creative Fellow at Bloedel Reserve (2018-2020), a 150-acre garden amid an old growth forest.

Trowbridge completed a Facebook Open Arts commission (2021), and was Artist in Residence at Jentel Artist Residency, in Wyoming (2022). She is a two-time Neddy Award Finalist (2014, 2016), and an Artist Trust GAP Grant recipient (2014). She is the Founding Director of the Modern Color Atelier, a multi-year painting program at Gage Academy of Art, Seattle.

Her painting "Night Moves" was recently paired with Michael Spafford's work at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, WA.

A favorite detail in this kitchen eating area: a custom print of a ferry interior, sized and framed to fit this space. The home is on Bainbridge Island, for these clients, the ferry is daily life and a gorgeous commute.

The sixth artist joining this year's Form Over Function is Michael Doyle 🤗

Michael Doyle is a self-taught painter and illustrator born and based in Seattle. Twenty years ago, he hung his first paintings at a neighborhood art walk and hasn't stopped since, building a practice that's grown from coffee shops and bookstores to galleries and international collectors, all without formal training- just a deep commitment to making.

Working in acrylic gouache, Michael creates figurative paintings that draw from classic cinema, old books, and the textures of Pacific Northwest life. His work carries a wry warmth and quiet sense of mystery- what he calls a "wink and nod" to something nostalgic, slower, and a little more human. His studio sits right here in Seattle's Denny Park neighborhood.

We can't wait to share his work with you this fall.

A Tribute to Pastor Felix❤️

We recently wrapped up a deeply personal art project at Kings Crossing, a multifamily housing community in Aurora, Colorado.

The Kings Crossing tribute screen was created for Pastor Felix, the late pastor of Restoration Christian Fellowship, who dedicated his life to providing stable, dignified housing for his community.

It was an honor to collaborate with his wife, Pastor K, and her team to help bring his spirit to this project through art.

Introducing the fifth artist joining this year's Form Over Function: Kelly Bjork 🎨

Kelly Bjork is a Tacoma-raised, Seattle-based painter whose portraiture captures the quiet intimacy between loved ones, and the small, easily overlooked details that hold our shared humanity together. Their work has shown from Seattle to New York to France, and been featured in New American Paintings, The Stranger, and The Washington Post.

Beyond the canvas, Kelly's large-scale murals, including work for Facebook's Seattle office, Hillman City, and 12th Avenue Arts, bring that same spirit of connection into public spaces across the city.

Fourth Artist Announcement: Nahom Ghirmay 🎨

We’re excited to welcome back Seattle-based artist Nahom Ghirmay to Form Over Function 2026!

A returning artist from last year’s exhibition, Nahom’s figurative paintings explore identity, memory, belonging, and the evolving idea of home. Born in Asmara, Eritrea and now based in Seattle, he uses expression, gesture, and painterly movement to create work that captures emotion and invites reflection.

Okay, these new Nancy Mintz photos just came back and… we’re obsessed. 👀✨⁠

Nancy’s sculptures are all about the beauty of materials, nature, and the things that change over time.⁠
⁠
In her newest work, she uses fine brass wire like a drawing, then layers it with Japanese paper to create these incredible translucent, almost weightless forms.⁠
⁠
Pods. Shells. Empty vessels. Little remnants of nature that feel delicate, organic, and somehow completely alive.⁠
⁠
We could stare at these all day. 🤍⁠
