The Seattle Department of Education & Early Learning and BrightSpark Early Learning Services are partnering to distribute up to $2.5 million in Seattle Childcare Workforce Payments funded by the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise levy. This funding is awarded to childcare providers to supplement wages for childcare workers to support staff retention for our critical, yet underpaid, childcare workforce.

This fall, DEEL is engaging community members – Seattle teens and young people up to 24, as well as local organizations who offer youth mentoring programs—to help design a new grant.

The Every Child Ready-Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy includes approximately $800,000 in annual funding to promote youth safety by increasing access to mentoring and reconnecting youth to education and career pathways. These funds prioritize services for youth most impacted by gun violence.

DEEL invites youth and local organizations to participate in the program design survey, which is open through Friday, October 16, 2026. Up to 20 survey participants will be randomly selected for a $50 e-gift card.

More Access & Support = More Local Grads in College

Seattle Promise is making the leap from high school to higher education easier and more accessible.

A new evaluation shows that the Seattle Promise program is significantly boosting college enrollment across the city:

+20% boost: Applicants are 20 percentage points more likely to enroll in college compared to matched Seattle Public Schools students who did not apply.

Local impact: Promise scholars are more likely to attend two-year colleges right here in Washington.

Data from Westat and the Washington Student Achievement Council, prepared for the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning, confirms it: Seattle Promise drove clear success for 2020-2022 Seattle high school graduates.
