Stories about awesome vegan & vegan friendly spots from the Seattle area and beyond since 2016...♾️ 🌱ⓥ 🌱 for the 🐷🐮🐝🐥🐟 #VGANG @milo43 @mariannebird

POSTS STORIES REELS

Seeing as it is World Vegan Day and all, it made for a good excuse to make a pit stop and support a fave local south end vegan biz today, @moevegan.
🌱
I know that the south end Des Moines location isn’t super convenient to all, but today’s visit reminded me that they are located directly across from the Highline Community College light rail station, so it’s easy to make a carless visit. Moe Vegan have built their ‘vegan crack’ name off of super flavorful southern soul food influenced recipes. I’m not familiar with anyone who’s had one of their special recipe vegan burgers who wouldn’t say they are hands down some of the best in the Seattle area. We needed a light snack lunch for two and got the Fried Vegan Cajun Seafood Basket that comes with fries. Deep Fried Vegan Halibut w/ 3 Crispy Fried Prawns and a side of gourmet fries and tartar sauce, where you get to pick between Cajun, Garlic, Truffle Parmesan or regular fries, along with a choice of sauce (make mine the vegan crack sauce). Customized by adding extra prawns, and we were in heaven.
🌱
Had the opportunity to try the Buss Down Thotiana Banana Pudding as a sweet treat topper and dannng it is crazy good. Southern Banana Pudding with layers of Cookies and Fresh Fruit topped with creamy whip, was a perfect treat for two and a unique southern influenced vegan dessert for the Seattle area. Also love that Moe Vegan is a family affair and a black owned vegan biz in Seattle with a menu unlike anyone else here. Support our small vegan and vegan friendly businesses as we head into the slower winter season, they need us to show up to stay afloat. And if you need vegan catering, check out Moe Vegan’s catering options. #moevegan #seattlevegan #seattleveganeats #vegancrack #🖕🏼🧊 by @seattleveganeats

Happy November 1, World Vegan Day, and beginning of World Vegan Month. Appreciative of the community and the focus of this day, but also super conscious of the fact that this is a lifetime 365, 24/7 focus and vibe for many of us. Going to look back on last week’s work trip to PDX and cover a twofer capturing my killer meals at @coopersvegan (within @mirisata) and @norahpdx, two of my fave Portland spots hands down.
🌱
The Coopers Cafe concept is so damn cool…a special menu within the Mirisata Co-Op where you can get a full-on vegan brunch/breakfast all day experience under the roof of a vegan Sri Lankan restaurant. As someone who looooves all-day breaky/brunch, I gotta say How Freaking Cool! Feats your eyes upon a Cooper Combo plate featuring a stack of luscious Blueberry Pancakes, Just Egg Scramble, Sausage and Smashed Yukons. You pick and choose the combo selections, and on the weekend you can pick the insane looking Croissant French Toast option…Tofu Scram, Hashbrowns, Bakon, you pick and choose including a variety of extra sides. They also have a variety of Breakfast Sandwiches, tons of Scram mixins, the whole spectrum is covered. Just show up and ask for the Coopers Menu, although it’s hard to bypass Mirisata’s insanely good main menu.
🌱
Not sure what else I could say about Norah I haven’t previously said. Top tier world class all vegan Thai, with some unique menu and recipe twists, and all the craft drinks and things. I showed up on a quiet weeknight window and got the See Ew plate that is to die for. Fresh and bursting with flavor, has to control myself to not annihilate the plate instantly. Paired it with the side Samosas that are massaman curry based with lime aoili. The pics speak for themselves. Norah also does some amazing collabs and pop up partnerships to keep an eye out for.
🌱
Vegan for the animals and the world. Kindness, compassion and empathy extended to humans and animals. Live your morals and principles. There’s only one planet for us all to share, and the path to sustaining it is at least partially through ending factory farming and the scorched earth consequences. #pdxvegan #seattleveganeats #coopersvegan #norahpdx #worldveganday by @seattleveganeats

Got out of the house Friday night after a crazy long work week and set off on a vegan food quest before going to check out @heavycastle play some classic doom ringed metal. And since the show was the the @elcorazonseattle complex, the obvious super vegan friendly choice down the street was @razzisseattle.
🌱
Both Razzis locations feature giant vegan menus that mostly replicate their giant non-vegan menu. And if that wasn’t enough, they have gluten free options for a huge portion if the vegan menu, and at the Greenwood location they now have a downstairs cafe that has pastries and baked goods that I’m dying to check out. But this is about satisfying my pre-show hunger, and i knee what i was crazing: the Chicken Parmesan Grinder (what you see is the half size 👀). A crispy hoagie full of breaded vegan chicken topped with onions, vegan mozz and marinara, this is a deelish delight of a grinder. You can also choose eggplant parmesan and meatballs for the same sandwich, always a hard personal choice. I accompanied the grind with a half size bowl of their super hearty Split Pea Soup that made for a body warming and perfectly filling combo.
🌱
The menu at Razzis covers the Italian spectrum, and as you can see, the portions are super generous. Headed over to Funhouse super satisfied in time to catch PDX’s @slowgoatpdx lay down some heavy psych tinged riffs. @heavycastle from SF have a new LP out called Carry Chains that they’re touring off of, and I was stoked to finally catch them and rocking their records for a bunch of years. Swipe past the food to check the vibe if you are inclined. #razzisseattle #seattlevegan #seattleveganeats #veganfoodandmusic #veganmetalheads by @seattleveganeats

Sometimes things don’t work out as planned and it actually ends up better than expected. Case in point is working the vegan food and music plan this week to catch @planetsdigable with @thechimp43. I had it dialed in just right to be able to hit the Hill and get some food before picking him up and hitting the Neptune show. But an accident closing an I-5 NB ramp sent me waaaaaay back south…luckily that Boeing Access Rd exit is a straight shot north to @glcseattle, which created an instant plan B.
🌱
Walked through the evil clown portal right into longtime awesome vegan friends @veganscore and Kirby having a low key trivia party at the bar. I know I’ve said it before, but Anika created the OG Seattle vegan web presence, and when I randomly decided to start posting Seattle vegan stories here on IG 10 years ago it was inspired by what she had started and created. Had to act quick and ordered a Cheesesteak Hoagie and a Strawberry Cheesecake, which I heard was made by Alan under close supervision (someone would have to verify, as it was the same perfection as always). Not sure why I felt I was safe to eat while driving because I had a boatload of napkins…the marinated strips of house made beefsteak with grilled onions and bell peppers smothered in smokey cheese sauce on a toasted roll had dripped across my hoodie by the time I got to the Hill. No regrets.
🌱
Had been a bit since I had seen Digable, probably before they disbanded and disappeared for awhile. Pretty sure we saw some of their first Seattle shows. They have a band of crazy talented Seattle musicians and brought it east coast / west coast style, with Ishmael Butterfly Butler showing (and receiving) the Seattle love. 30 years of Blowout Comb plus a handful of classics, it was a packed show and killer trip down the 90’s hiphop lane, swipe to check the vibe. #georgetownliquorcompany #glcseattle #seattlevegan #seattleveganeats #veganfoodandmusic by @seattleveganeats

Try as we might, sometimes it takes a lot longer to hit up new/newer/newish places for the first time. We can only spread ourselves so thin, and there are a lot of competing spots combined with the random way that eating out seems to play out. Such was the case with our first visit to @elcerro.seattle, the Puerto Rican / Caribbean-inspired coffee shop that took over the old @doughjoydonuts CapHill spot on Pike. After multiple attempts where we didn’t make it before closing, this time we dialed it in perfectly for brunch.
🌱
All vegan, so for starters that simplifies ordering immensely. They have a great variety of specialized drinks, so we decided to keep it legit and both ordered El Ajonjolí. Described as a Puerto Rican version of a horchata latter with sesame seeds, drop an espresso shot or two in this one and enjoy the delightful sesame flavor tones. Perusing the pastry case, you’ll note that @pikapantry supply the great selection (we got one of everything by Pika at the Radical Vegan Fest and loved it all). @mariannebird got the two gf options, the Pumpkin Bread and the Besitos de Coco (aka macaroons). Being ready for a heartier brunch experience, I went with the Breakfast Sando, a vegan version of an egg/ham/cheese breakfast sandwich. Warm and crispy pressed, it was simple and delicious, a perfect complement to that sesame based horchata style latte.
🌱
The vibe at El Cerro is perfect, a killer cultural celebration with a wide ranging deep drink menu and plenty of breakfast/brunch plate and pastry options. Will joyfully have many returns. Meanwhile we set off from there and cruised the Pike/Pine corridor, hitting up 35th North who have a killer Sasquatch skate themed art show right now, Zions Gate, who have become a longstanding Hill institution, and Art Primo for supplies. Been a long time since I lived on the Hill, when Seattle was a way different place, but I still love and appreciate the vibe and variety and hangs, and as always there are a handful of great vegan and vegan-friendly spots (the new @thepizzaresistance takeout location is just around the corner from El Cerro). #elcerroseattle #capitolhillvegan #seattleveganeats #seattlevegan by @seattleveganeats

Happy weekend, and with it the two week countdown to All Hallows Eve, when that most special of specials at @frankieandjos disappears into the ether for another year.
🌱
Yes, it’s the Frankencone, that crispy cocoa-charcoal waffle that adds some seasonal blackened joy to their otherwise vibrant waffle cone and vegan flavor combos. Of course, to do it up in a proper all-in seasonal pairing, you should fill that cone with their special Frankencone flavor ice cream. It’s a super-fudgey dark chocolate vegan and gluten-free ice cream loaded with crispy pieces of chocolate-covered Frankencone throughout, that can be finished with a dark chocolate magic shell. If that fudge forward flavor isn’t doing it for you, you can also load it up with the Salty Caramel Ash flavor to keep the dark vibe alive.
🌱
And if you decide to go grab some F&J goodness at their Cap Hill shop this weekend, @thepizzaresistance has just opened up their vegan pizza kitchen spot on the Hill. This means you can add some gluttonous glory to the whole experience by grabbing one of those personal vegan pizzas either before or after that Frankencone (no judgement here, ever). #frankieandjos #frankencone #seattleveganeats #seattlevegan #pizzaresistance by @seattleveganeats

The sun came out yesterday and we were inspired to hit up the @mikeeganart show at Gallery Ergo after not being able to attend the opening Friday night. We have a bunch of Mike Egan art and a love for everything he does, and Gallery Ergo rules in general. Pike Place was crazy on a sunny fall Saturday, but is one of those rare places where we still love to visit as a local, despite the tourist insanity.
🌱
Given the fall soup weather being in full effect, we were craving some of that vegan Lime and Coconut Chowder. From them: “Velvety chowder prepared with the freshest vegetables simmered in coconut milk, enhanced with the zesty flavor of lime juice.“ Exactly, and it is so damn good. @mariannebird kept it gf minus the bread, while I rocked that sourdough bread bowl in all its glory. We ate at the view park, with all of its crazy people watching. Pro tip on Pike Place Chowder, if you haven’t been: first thing you’ll notice is the insane lines and queue in the alley. Given the fact there’s almost no seating, order online and you’ll be able to pick your food up in the back hallway and grab and go with your food within 10 mins, walking past the people who will be standing in line for the next 30 mins.
🌱
Ahead of the chowder and gallery party, we hit up the Alley Catz mural wall and checked out all the killer catz, at least until I jumped the barrier in the middle of the alley and got kicked out by security. It’s another beautiful sunny fall weekend day, and a chance to go grab some killer vegan chowder in the sun. #pikeplacechowder #pikeplacemarketvegan #seattleveganeats #mikeegan #galleryergo by @seattleveganeats

Headed north to the lovely land of Everett for @billystrings #bmfs and our first show at the Angel of the Winds arena. Of course, with traffic being insane after work, time was kind of tight. So we went with what we know and visited the friends at the all vegan @the_bayside_cafe for a vegan food and music night.
🌱
Full disclosure, we had kind of thought that @thepizzaresistance was posted up there full time, rather than just pop-ups (ooops), and had Pizza Friday on the mind. Of course, the menu has a deep selection of vegan comfort greatness, so we settled in with a gf Porkless Sandwich for @mariannebird and I rocked a Bacun Swiss Chickun. The fries and tots were crisp and perfectly seasoned, the Porkless was chock sloppy full of bbq blackened soy curls and housemade slaw, and the Bacun Swiss was crispy with guac and mayo adding all the right touches. Things were busy, so we took some leftovers to go so we didn’t miss the show. Gotta say that eating the cold leftovers on the drive home wasn’t too bad at all!
🌱
As is typical, Bayside had a show going on last night, check their calendar, they regularly feature solid hardcore/punk/metal shows. BMFS is a one of a kind badass and his band (mandolin, upright bass, banjo and violin) is a tight all star machine that moves back and forth from bluegrass staples to insane psychedelic grassrock jams to killer originals and covers. Last night, in Seattle tribute, they busted out two Pearl Jam cuts in tribute of them being the soundtrack to his childhood providing emotional ties to transcending family trauma. Swipe to check some clips. #baysidecafe #everettvegan #seattleveganeats #veganfoodandmusic by @seattleveganeats

Well, what did people think about the inaugural Radical Vegan Fest put on by @radicalveganseattle? Sounds like over 1,000 of us showed up, and besides quickly overwhelming the food vendors and selling some of them out early, it felt like a smashing success to us.
🌱
We arrived somewhere around 11:30ish and by the time we got in the door, the food lines were already crazy. We did a quick walk around to assess the lines and our options, and started off by getting in line to grab some @vtopian cheeses, a bowl of @adelledapdx Mac and Cheese, and a @basedfoods_ gf Pesto Sandwich. When we figured out that the waits were going to be up to 45 mins or more, we hit up @pikapantry for some pastries, including an amazing gf Banana Bread and some sweet and savory pastries for later. We wandered and checked out the other vendors, chatted with some friends, and returned to eat our lunch after the wait. The food was super satisfying given the built up hunger, and I’m always amazed by Adelledas, where the mac and cheese was rich and decadent fueled by Vtopian. Vtopian cheeses rule our world and it always a great day when we get to enjoy them.
🌱
We took a break to head down the block and visit friends, then returned for round two. @mariannebird got her ears video scoped out, we picked up some prints from @angelinamoneirart and @pyrophyte.distro, grabbed some killer soup to go from Soup Club, and wrapped the epicness up with a crazy abstract caricature done by @jareddraws. Besides including us, Jared worked off a photo to include out mascot squish Sphynx cat Eddie (aka Ratward) in the mix. Can’t say enough good things about Jared and his wild and fun abstract styles, guessing we’ll be back for something else because one may not be enough. And whether it was Jared or Jaida at @clearhearing, what was so satisfying is they are fellow vegans providing art and services that build vegan community connections. That is how @seattlevegangroup will achieve their vision of a vegan co-op, by building a solid community foundation that can both launch and sustain a new vegan small business start up. #radicalveganfest #seattleveganeats #seattlevegan #pnwvegan #veganpower by @seattleveganeats

Been a minute since a vegan food and music post, and seeing @ceremony and @drysocketpdx in Oly this weekend at the tiny @wildchildolympia venue presents the perfect opportunity. And that is mostly because the always worthy all vegan @le.voyeur.olympia is on the same block.
🌱
While Le Voyeur now offers a delicious looking weekend brunch menu, I’m always there at night for their comfort menu that consists of burgers, wings, sandwiches, mac n chz, dogs, salads, fries and sides (and all the sauces of course). I decided to make a break from my usual suspects order and tried out The Cherise, a sammie with beer braised tempeh and herbed slaw, 1000 island and cheddar cheez on sourdough. As you will note in scrolling, they don’t hold back on the sauces, which means you’ll want to grab a fat stack of napkins for their juicy sammies and burgers. This one was a doozy, requiring me to go back for even more napkins, but it was so damn good who am I to complain?!? Got their perfectly prepared fries as a side and some filling sauce and I was good to go for the show.
🌱
Le Voyeur and Wild Child are similar in that they both have small show rooms in the back where underground music thrives. I hadn’t been to a show at Wild Child, and can’t imagine it holds much more than 100 people, so seeing Ceremony there was a treat as compared to the larger Seattle show. Ceremony is one of those bands that is just so unique and varied and hard to categorize, and they put on a live show that never disappoints. Missed the opener, but Dry Socket from PDX played a great set and got everyone primed. It was a super fun solo adventure in Oly, and the only downside was the fact that I became super sick the next day and missed Earth Crisis, Integrity and Judge in Seattle the next night. Such is life. #levoyeur #olympiavegan #seattleveganeats #ceremonyband #veganfoodandmusic by @seattleveganeats
