It’d be impossible to describe life in Montevideo, Uruguay, without mentioning soccer. At the Rambla, Montevideo’s coastal promenade, kids play pickup games on the beach, on squares, even on dirt strips between two highways that most people would consider unusable. The potrero. Local @sebaangok shares a look into a day of this life:

“In Montevideo, soccer doesn’t feel separated from daily life—it feels fully woven into it. The city, the river, the wind, maté and soccer all coexist very naturally. The Rambla works almost like one enormous public square facing the water. Throughout the day, people run, cycle, fish, walk their dogs, drink mate or simply sit and watch the horizon. And in the middle of all that, soccer fields appear again and again, almost as a natural extension of the landscape.

At every field I visited this weekend, the same scene repeated itself with small variations: entire families arriving with folding chairs, thermoses and maté to spend hours supporting whoever was playing. Grandmothers, parents, children and friends all gathering around amateur matches as part of something deeply social and emotional.

The fields themselves constantly changed too: some were dirt pitches, others synthetic turf, and others rough grass shaped by the coastal wind. But the intensity and passion surrounding the game always felt the same. Children, teenagers and adults all connected through something that, in Uruguay, often feels almost like a shared language. Soccer here is often more than a sport—it’s also a way of inhabiting the city.”

#IgersUruguay #Uruguay #UruguayNatural #trip taken in Villa Serrana, Lavalleja, Uruguay by @sebaangok
