It really is a special feeling every year when I come to Gerlos for Christmas 🎄 . We've been going since my first year and I've celebrated my birthday here almost every year since then 🥳!

Of course my grandma was there too, I've always called her Mamam so that’s Mama + M and the M was because of all the treats I got from her when I was a kid (mmm) 🤣; made that up when I was 3 or something but never changed it. She's 93 now and we've always shared a special bond. One of the funniest moments this holiday was when we played a game of 4 of a kind where you had to impersonate the picture on the cards, it was hilarious to see my grandmother making all these funny faces 🤪, totally going up in the game.

We were also joined by my young cousin Kai 😍 who celebrated his first Christmas there! He was amazing racing around the floor in the hotel and being all smiles, and pointing at everything ta ta ta!

All these pictures just make me feel like going again… Can't wait until next year. Auf wiedersehen Gerlos!

Austria 2/3 ... We've been going to Gerlos for years and years and always going to the same little bar on slopes towards the Konigsleiten 🏔. It's situated right in the sun and below one of the lifts, you've got some nice benches with warm blankets and some beach chairs. We've made it a traditional stop for Heisse Choco, beers, and the incidental schnaps of course 😜.

This year we found a new shot called NUSS KUSS, which was a warm shot of nuss schnaps and hot chocolate in a chocolate cone with whipped cream on top, delicious! Of course I dropped the first batch so that meant getting the next round 🤣

The funny thing is we've been calling the place: the "Glucklichen Kuhe 🐮 " for the last decade. It was kind of a shocker this year when we found out it's not ACTUALLY called the Glucklichen Kuhe at all but the Almbar or something 😒 boring.. I guess we had a few schnapps zu viel all these years 😅

... Then again I think we'll just keep calling it the Glucklichen Kuhe, suits the place better and has a nice ring to it, don't you agree 😉?!

Austria 1/3 ... Seeing as I'm stuck at home with covid I thought it would be nice to reminiscence some more about last year. My last awesome trip of the year was to my favorite winter destination where I've been going all my life: Gerlos in the Zillertal in Austria 🇦🇹!

I was there accompanied by family @stephaniemathas @max.weijers @arnonymous @bregje11 Kai @lesageaimee @arendlesage and of course my grandma at 93, amazing!

And what a vacation it was! Extremely quiet because of the covid rules and we were there just in time before the rules changed, how lucky was that?! We also had KAISERWETTER, only sunshine! Which makes having some Heisse Choco mit Sahne UND (of course) amaretto, or ein GROSE bier, that much better 🍻 !

Can't wait to go again next year!

Achtung, fertig, loss 🏂 !

Another great highlight was on the way to Austria where I've gone for all my life every Christmas 🎄 , we now have a stopover in Wixhausen to @artsenmotor and @karolinkegel new home!

@arnonymous and I drove there from Amsterdam having fun along the way with music and especially with the @vogelspotcast 🐦, an hilariously entertaining podcast about birdwatching!

We arrived in Wixhausen, chilled a bit at home with Karoline and the Kids, played some sjoelbak with Yves and Jade and had a run-in with an awkward cat pillow 🐱 🍆 . We then made our way to have dinner in the nearby town of Darmstadt. After some trouble with the ticket machine we hopped on the train and had some beers 🍻 because when you drink you dont have to wear your mondkapje 😅.

We went to a classic restaurant there and had some... Schnitzels offcourse! What else?

We tried to enter one of multiple Christmas markets, but we were a bit late, we ended up in Cafe Chaos, stayed until it closed and made our way back home catching the train "with time to spare" 😌 right! Thanks for hosting us Karel and Karoline we’ll surely be back for a stopover next year! 🤩

.. Because we then went to Belgium to celebrate @artsenmotor Karel's dad's birthday at his holiday home in Belgium 🥳. We drove an incredibly beautiful highway basically from Karel's new place in Wixhausen to the holiday home. The highway was on a hill ridge so you have amazing views the entire way there.

When we arrived the location was completely set up for a festival with a camping ground, food, drinks, a bonfire (which seemed out of control but wasn't🔥) trampoline, barbeque and a lot of fun activities!

My favourite photo of this weekend is basically the picture of Karel and his son Yves holding a watermelon the size of his head 🍉 . You'd think that was all he had but Yves has the appetite of a fully grown Grizzly Bear, the little guy had 2 (adult size) croissants just before and multiple pieces of watermelon and showed no signs of slowing down. Me and Karel laughing at Yves in utter bewilderment while he attacked another piece of watermelon 🤣.

We then had a pubquiz about the life of Karel's dad, hosted by Karel and Marie, a barbeque, and had a live DJ for the evening. We made sure we got a hangover the next day, but opening the tent to a view like that sobers you up quickly 🌤.

Can't wait for the next edition! Thanks again for letting me tag along Karel and @karolinkegel , it was a party to remember!

Another amazing highlight from last year was helping my friend @artsenmotor Karel Peper move to his new home in Wixhausen Germany from Amsterdam! He asked me if I would like to help him move.. or at least help coordinate the movers as they move the stuff from Amsterdam to Wixhausen which sounded like fun, so I said hell yeah let’s go 😎!

We left from Amsterdam drove to Wixhausen where we met the floor guy (the guy who was renovating the hardwood floors) from now on called Mr. Chuckles, because it seemed genetically impossible for him to smile. He said that there was no way for us to move in that day because the varnish layer on the upper floors was not hardened yet. And we needed painting cloth to put the furniture and boxes on to make sure there were no scratches. Since we had no choice, we let the first wagon unload everything in the car park and called it a day. We then went to the beautiful home of the father of @karolinkegel, which is as close to a spaceship as you can get, with fingerprint scanning and automatic everything and enjoyed the beautiful view there ☀️ .

The next day we were up bright and early to really start the moving process. We met Mr. Chuckles who was in his usual sunny mood. He told Karel about the painting cloth again and actually made a joke about how he would take Karel’s motorbike. However, have you ever met a guy who makes a joke and seems nor sarcastic nor smiling? Just an expressionless face when the “joke” ended 😐… that was yeah.. extremely awkward 😅.

When the movers arrived, things went extremely quickly. Within a couple of hours all the boxes and furniture was moved in to the corresponding rooms. We celebrated at a nearby Biergarten🍻, with liter pints of beer and of course Schnitzels! We ended walking home from the Biergarten through a pitch-black bicycle road, and it was so dark I actually tripped and went headfirst into a bush, we couldn’t stop laughing the rest of the way 😂.

A wonderful weekend and the fun didn’t end there that week 🤩… thanks Karel again for the invite it was a hilarious few days!

What other highlights last year hmm... oh yes 🤩! Our friend @leroyalmisj organized a boat party with the crew of the Wonderland (mini) festival he organized the year before🥳! It was so great to see everyone again and to dance on festival tunes on a boat enjoying the amazing weather that day!

I remember starting the day with quite a hangover from the evening before and meeting Frans and deciding it's better to just bite the bullet early and start with a beer 🍻 . That hit the spot and set the tone for the rest of the day. We were soon joined by @nckmlt @lamsterdammer @l.aura_anne @noldusreijnders and then we met @happywithhenny and @alinapolichuk on the boat as well 🥰!

We then set sail for a full day of drinks, festival tunes and friends! I remember at one point someone saying to me; "Who's that 😳?!... is he... fistpumping?... That's FRANS! " and then we saw Frans alone on the upper deck fistpumping to the beat...going absolutely wild 🤣hahaha... That was one hilarious moment I will never forget! Michel and the rest of the organizers, once again thanks alot and until next time, can't wait for the 2022 edition!

Highlight no.3 from last year must be the #unmuteus protest 🥳, where we walked with 35.000 people through Amsterdam (the organization spoke of even 80.000, which feels more accurate if you've seen the pictures) and protested the unfair rules against the festival and concert sector 💪.

The most beautiful thing was that this protest was super peaceful and I believe there was absolutely no violence incidents just love, dance and music🥳. You really felt the actual Festival Vibe we have been missing for such a long time.

I started the day with @nckmlt at the starting point, and we were soon joined by @jorisnoordenbos @alinapolichuk @alexwagemakers @leroyalmisj and @bastiaanslijpen to have an amazing day strolling in this protest, from and to the Westerpark ✨. This was supposed to take 2 hours but because of the insane amount of people took 5 hours to complete.

It was amazing being surrounded by all these happy people on all sides. The little girl with the sign "Ik wil ook later feesten" said it all for me. We need to take better care so our kids can also have a future where they can have the freedom we're used to and love so much 🌍 🙏.

After this amazing day we had dinner with a skeleton crew of 4 in the Jordaan and ended up in.... of course: Cafe Nol, where we were denied access 3 times until they let us in because we were so stubborn and maybe because we tipped the doorman (just a little) 🤣. Certainly a day to remember!

“Unforgettable” … What a day this was, another highlight from last year. You're looking at the Party Committee of my Mom and Patrick's wedding. My amazing sister @stephaniemathas , mi brada @chrissilos_insta and yours truly. And what an unforgettable day it was 🥰.

We were going on a boat through the Amsterdam canals with the attendees and I was up bright and early to decorate the boat as master of decorations. I was so scared to oversleep, so I put on every alarm I had and barely slept because of the excitement. In the end I was more than on time at the boat decorated it in bright colors and decorations, but you might see me looking a bit tired 🤗.

The day on the boat was amazing, the speech where I was quite nervous about, actually went really well and the other speeches of my sister and Chris were both incredible and very entertaining. The entire day was filled with nice moments. But one moment that really stuck with me was the special appearance of one of Patrick's childhood idols from Surinam who sang the song “Unforgettable” for us live, being 80+ years old, it was a heartwarming moment that I will remember always 😍.

We then went to the Vondelpark to hang a lock on the little green bridge and then have a nice dinner together. Chris lead in the song “Ik heb een tuintje in mijn hart” on the guitar on a full terrace and we passed leaflets so some people hesitantly… awkwardly joined in with the singing which was quite entertaining 😅.

We ended the day with some cocktails at home and you can imagine I slept like a baby that night 😴.

Since it's Blue Monday today I thought I'd lighten things up with some highlights from last year!

Last year went by so incredibly fast although there weren't a whole lot of exceptional experiences, memories, travels and parties like in a "normal" year. However, there were still some exceptional memories during the year that made me realize how grateful I am for the people around me 🥰. So I would like to take the next few days and highlight some of these memories!

... So where to start?! Ahh yes, I was invited to Sweden this year 🤩 by two of my amazing friends @johannazeisser and Frans to visit the cottage and land of Johanna's family and get to know this part of her heritage. It was an amazing experience learning about the cottage and how it came into her family, her Swedish roots, being in the woods, back to basic, chopping wood, lighting the hot tub and sharing wonderful meals together.

While we were there we relaxed and also did some fun chores, while being followed by Johanna and Frans's son Max. Max loves to copy his dad so we were followed closely by Max holding tools way too big for his size, making them look like giant tools in his small hands.

We also went fishing, which was kind of a bucket list thing for me, so I was super happy to try it! However, except for a few nibbles (and catching a tree with my hook, some talent 😅) we didn't manage to catch anything. This meant we had to make do with super fresh salmon from a store nearby which was an absolute WIN 🤤! My sister @stephaniemathas en @max.weijers (who were also in Sweden) visited and stayed on the land in their tent with their pet Duckduck it was really nice to share this experience with them as well.

We went swimming in the crystal clear water, picked fresh mushrooms, and got in the hot tub each night under the stars ✨.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Johanna and Frans again for their hospitality and the invitation to come to their amazing cottage in the woods in Sweden 🙏. Thank you so much and I hope to visit sometime again in the future. And see you guys soon 😘!
