Sound, light, texture, atmosphere.
A little glimpse into Scenery 5, an immersive night of ambient music and moving image at Blank Cultural Platform.

Slow-burning soundscapes, shifting projections and analogue visuals transformed the space into something entirely different for a few hours, with music from Umki, Orthotyp-a and Sebastian Field, and live visuals by Nicci Haynes.

A night for zoning in, tuning out, and letting the room become the experience.

Here’s a little piece of what it looked and sounded like. taken in Blank Cultural Platform by @sebastianfield

Episode Four of Southern Oscillation airs this Saturday (October 3) at 10am on @trust.fm_.

Two hours of ambient, drone, microsound, field recordings, electroacoustic / contemporary* composition and experimental electronics from across the globe.

*Contemporary composition is a new addition to the mix, although I suspect we’ve already been wandering around here without calling it that. Genres are so blurry 🫠🫠

✨ SCENERY 5 ✨

We’re delighted to be hosting the 5th edition of Scenery this Friday!

This site-responsive edition will see @niccihaynes projections expanded across multiple surfaces throughout the venue, transforming the space into an enveloping field of moving light, texture and abstraction. The live visuals will unfold alongside immersive sound works from Sebastian Field, Orthotyp-a, and Umki.

@sebastianfield is a Canberra-based musician, composer and producer working across ambient, experimental and electronic music, and the producer and artistic director of Scenery. Layered and processed ambient guitar through a network of pedals and modular synthesis, shaping evolving harmonics, texture and slow-moving tonal environments in real time.

@o.r.t.h.o.t.y.p_a is the experimental sound project of Canberra-based artist and composer Paul Young. Dark ambient movements of resonance, drone and atmosphere, shifting between density and openness.

@uuuuumki (L Wheeler) is a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, image and performance. Hyper-textural sound-worlds through electronic manipulations.

🍛 PLUS! @trustcafeclub serving up daal and alcohol-free drinks! Get in when doors open to grab dinner and settle in.

I’m excited to share that the next edition of Scenery will take place on Saturday 2 May at the National Film and Sound Archive (@nfsaonline), as part of MOSSO: Music in Motion within the Canberra International Music Festival (@the_cimf @yourmusicact). This special edition will be a one-hour performance featuring just myself and @niccihaynes, presented in the seated theatrette.
