Running your first panel at a convention can be daunting! You don’t know how many or who will show up. Will your jokes land? Will the material keep them interested? What about walkouts?

It’s probably best to prepare your deck months in advance, ensure your materials are easily accessible and know what technology you’ll have at hand.
If you’ve been to conventions before, spend a little time after a panel just to ask questions on how they run their panels.

Florida SUPERCON got into some controversy after bringing on a judge who wasn't a craftsman cosplayer to their contest panel. People brought up points about the potential contest judge being an influencer with no real cosplay crafting experience. When cons set up these contests, judges are normally brought on who have experience in making cosplays.
If you have never made a cosplay, you shouldn't be judging other cosplays in a contest because you have no experience in what is needed to properly judge such a contest.

Cosplayers bring down such intricate outfits! Gotta be one of the most difficult trips to do: bring down 4 cosplays plus props plus wigs plus a handler. And on top of that regular clothing and maybe a sewing kit. They bring all that down with such care to bring the magic at cons! It’s amazing! (But don’t look in their hotel rooms, that’s a mess)

There have been at least two incidents where a sx pest has been beaten or injured at a con for being trash. This is the kind of energy we need at all cons. Predators and creeps need to know they are NOT welcome at ANY convent. Sadly, some cons would rather sweep that kind of safety under the rug and hinder the possibility of being called out for enabling harassment.

When you attend an anime convention, you’ll want to try everything. Battling aliens in the game room, perusing 3D printed dragons (BLECH) in the merch hall, staring at 18+ art in the Artist’s Alley, dancing with 6’ tall Navi cosers on the con floor, etc. it’s three and sometimes more days of fun fun FUN! You get to meet people who like what you like. You might make new connections. It’s even better if you’re in cosplay.
