The cassettes are kind of like a Musical Polaroid, anti-digital, kinda lowfi but an immediate snapshot of an experience.Recorded the whole show to cassette ONLY (no computer) duplicated them that night, you had to be there.3 goals: bring people together, have fun, get the cassettes recorded / duplicated.The talent was unmatched, the crowd was incredible, and the room sounded great. The mutual support for each other and connection / energy in the room was so special! Wanted to record a song completely analog without using any computer, & only doing ONE stereo digital conversion at the very end! Sounding pretty cool and extremely fun working this way & mixing live, running faders/pitch knobs etc..let us know if you’re interested in more content like this showing the process and what we’re learning! by @secretsisterstudio

☘︎ CONCEPT was to make an entire song without touching the computer. Skip to bottom for main takeaway..☘︎ We wanted to see what kind of sound difference we would have with only one stereo digital conversion at the very end - compared to working in a computer and sending stuff out to analog and back in with tonsss of digital conversions happening.☘︎ Super limiting workflow, but super fun! Every plug-in is replaced with a piece of real gear, and if you want to reuse any of that gear, you have to bounce down your decisions to the tape permanently..☘︎ Also being limited to 16 channels means that if you want to make room for more you have to commit to mix downs well you’ll never be able to go back and change anything after that point, scary, but also fun!.★ Starting to lean into the “destructive” nature of recording this way. Every decision is permanent, if you carry a computer mentality into this workflow by wanting to comp and edit things and have options, well, it’s kind of impossible, but also just a huge pain..What you really wanna do is see the tape machine as an instrument, work it in the same way that there’s no turning back once you start doing a guitar solo - you’re not over planning and over complicating the process, but taking one exciting step at a time with complete openness to where the song could end up. It’s technical but improvisational at the same time.. ★ One thing is for sure, we’re ending up with the sound that we’re not hearing from other people, and that we wouldn’t have come up with on a computer.This is the first time we’ve completed a song with this workflow, really excited to share it with you guys and keep doing more of them! by @secretsisterstudio
