Only 8 days to go until the release of the first issue of @thewhisperwarcomic .

I have to admit there’s a sense of nervousness I haven’t felt in a long time—probably similar to when I first started working on the series. I remember how afraid I was when I began illustrating the first pages. Although I loved and enjoyed it very much, I kept thinking to myself: Will I be able to deliver on time, and will the quality of what I’m producing be any good?

This is a very normal process I go through with every project, until you hit a certain threshold where you realize you can do it—and then you start delivering. Once I saw where this story was heading, I realized I had become more confident in my storytelling, and that confidence really started to grow.

Carlos would send me bits and pieces of his coloring process, and I couldn’t believe how good his colors were. That’s when I started realizing we were truly onto something. I hope those of you who pick this book up will see the love and effort we put into this project.

The Whisper War Issue #1 will be released on February 10th, 2026.

I know I’ve shared this image before, but I realized that I never posted any close-ups of this collaboration with none other than @jimlee himself.

Bear with me for a second, if you don’t mind. Back in 2019, I traveled to Los Angeles. Prior to that trip, Jim had invited me to have dinner or lunch with him. When I was in LA, we met up and afterwards went to the DC office. I had prepared a Batman illustration for Jim. When I gave it to him, he inspected the picture, then turned it around and noticed some unfinished pencils on the back. He liked the pencils and asked me to give him one of my pencil drawings in the future so that he could ink it.

Fast forward to 2022 — after having some amazing Korean BBQ, I handed him a very rough Omega Red sketch. I knew how busy he was and didn’t really expect him to do anything with it, but a few months later, my phone started buzzing like crazy with messages saying that Jim was actually inking my Omega Red drawing live on one of his streams!

It was absolutely surreal to see that happening — especially while Jim kept cracking one joke after another. Bit by bit, the piece started coming together, getting more polished and refined. A few months later, he finished the inks during another stream. I could barely believe what was happening.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Jim’s organic approach to inking — his bold spotting of blacks, his delicate cross-hatching, and his masterful use of white-out are all testaments to his incredible artistic ability. I never would have imagined that one day I’d see his inks over my artwork… and yet, here we are.

I look at this piece often, and it reminds me that sometimes the universe makes things happen you’d never think were possible.

The beauty of being able to create your own worlds is that the possibilities are endless, and you only have to play by the rules you’ve established for those worlds.

My biggest issue is that I just can’t stop thinking about these worlds and wanting to create more and more. Can you blame me?

I’ve also come to realize that I can achieve the same level of quality on an 11 × 17 board as I can on a 16 × 22. Before, I was always worried that I’d screw things up. Anyway, here’s the result, and I really LOVE where this is heading.

Cover reveal time! My next Conan the Barbarian cover has just been announced: Conan the Barbarian 38, Cover C.

I’ve been waiting quite a while for this cover to finally come out, and for a second there, I thought it wasn’t going to be released. But here it is!

I have to say, this is definitely my favorite Conan the Barbarian cover I’ve done so far. @carloscabrera.art once again knocked the colors out of this galaxy! I’m so happy with how he handled this piece.

I really hope that someday Carlos and I will get the chance to work on a full Conan story together. Our time working together on The Whisper War was magical. Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky. :)

30 years ago today, the greatest rap artist, street poet, and actor, Tupac Amaru Shakur, passed away after being shot in Las Vegas.

I still remember being 12 or 13 years old and hearing about his death. I was shocked and in disbelief. My friend @kauderwells had turned me on to Tupac’s music only a few months earlier, when he had bought 2Pac’s mega album All Eyez on Me. I remember calling him up and telling him about Pac’s death.

It’s been 30 years since that horrible day, but his music feels more relevant than ever. While I really loved his harder tracks, I’ve always felt more connected to his “deep” songs, in which he would describe the struggle of being a young Black man. Somehow—although I’m not Black and therefore will never be able to understand what it’s like to be in that situation—I could always relate to what he was describing.

To me, his message became more relevant with every year that passed. Whenever I go back to songs like “Dear Mama,” “So Many Tears,” “Crazy,” or “White Man’s World,” I feel like he’s in the same room with me. During many difficult situations in my life, I’d listen to his songs and reflect on my own life while, at the same time, drawing strength and inspiration from his words.

I remember When my mother was hospitalized two years ago and almost didn’t make it, I kept listening to „dear mama“ the whole time while at my lowest when I couldn’t be with her and just hoping that she’d make it. That’s how important his music was and still is to me.

While browsing the internet a few days ago, I saw a behind-the-scenes clip of Tupac from the set of Gang Related, where he and James Belushi acted out a scene together. I thought to myself, this guy would have won an Oscar at some point in his career if he’d had the chance to continue.

Another fun fact about 2Pac is that he was considered for the role of Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode I. Can you imagine that?

Tupac was only 25 years old when he died. But he created a body of work that will last for generations to come.

Thank you for being an artist, an inspiration, and a source of solace in the hardest of times, Tupac.

I just saw that @thewhisperwarcomic has now earned the title „Bestseller Nr.1“ on Amazon. I seriously have no idea what this means, but hot damn!!!!
I can not describe how much I love this series and how much I loved working on this. And yes I’m super happy to be the artist and co creator on a „Bestseller“. Thank you @marcguggenheim @carloscabrera.art @comixology @robinsonchrisrobinson Dave Sharp and @travis_escar for bringing your AAA+ Game to the table on this project ❤️

Since this was announced today, I think it will be fine to share this tiny snippet from a two part „young-death“ story I did for @2000adcomic a few months ago. The story is called „grave consequences“, written by KEK-W with colors by John Charles and artwork by yours truly. Available on August 26th in the upcoming 2000AD Prog 2497.
This was a lot of fun, as it is always working with the fine people at 2000AD. I hope all of you will enjoy this. The Original Art will be available once the story is released. Let me know if you’re interested.
