Seed Sewers has literally been a dream come true. ✨

I truly truly truly LOVE teaching people how to sew✨

It is sooo rewarding!!!

With my organization Seed Sewers, I believe every skill begins as a seed. My beginner sewing classes are designed to plant that first seed of knowledge, equipping students with the basics they need to nurture, grow, and eventually bloom into skilled sewists.✨✨✨🌱🌱🌱

🧵1. You DON’T need the most expensive machine.

A beginner doesn’t need a $1,000+ machine to learn how to sew. You need a machine that is reliable, easy to use, and has the basic stitches you’ll actually use.

🧵2. More stitches does not mean it’s a “better” machine.

A machine having 100+ decorative stitches doesn’t automatically make it better.

For beginners, I’d prioritize making sure your machine has these:

* Straight stitch
* Zigzag stitch
* Reverse stitch
* Adjustable stitch length
* Adjustable stitch width
* Buttonhole function

🧵3. Decide on what types of projects you’re actually going to sew.

Are you making clothing? Quilts? Home decor? Costumes? Alterations?

Your projects should influence the machine you buy. (If you’re going to make clothes or things with thicker material I recommend the grey heavy duty machine)

🧵4. Don’t buy a machine you don’t know how to operate.
(Now if someone gifts you a machine then that’s different )

A machine can have all the bells and whistles, but if you’re intimidated by it, you won’t use it.

Beginner-friendly is always better than “Fancy”

🧵5. Buy the machine you’ll actually use.

Your first sewing machine doesn’t have to be your forever machine.

Start with something that allows you to learn, practice and build confidence. You can always upgrade later.

What a beautiful weekend of creativity, connection, and sewing! 🧵✨ I had the opportunity to teach a sewing class at a beautiful apartment community, and it was such a joy seeing everyone learn, create, and build confidence behind the machine. 🤍
