Good morning. Waking up to my favorite breakfast, cinnamon toast soldiers dipped in my café au lait (in a latte bowl — makes me feel a little bit French lol) and lighting a candle makes the beginning of a new day feel a little bit special. I don’t know about you guys, but I could sure use a little bit special these days. Oh, and can you see my new little pumpkin? He turned out pretty cute after all, didn’t he? I think I’ll make another one today – – enjoying crocheting again lately — soul soothing 😌

Made it to knitting this morning for the first time in weeks. Blown in on a storm and looking it ⛈️💨also got my first PSL of the year! Gonna try to finish putting together my little wheat stitch pumpkin today while visiting with my Lady friends – – been missing them.
Oh, and I was just reminded that today is First Monday and it’s under 100° so I’m gonna run over for the first time in at least a year. Corn dogs, funnel cakes, and all kinds of fun fall stuff I reckon!

I haven’t crocheted in so long but I couldn’t resist trying to make this cute little wheat stitch pumpkin from Brianna K designs. My crochet skills are pretty rusty so it might be a little wonky but I’m ok with wonky. Anyhoo, yay fall! I think we dried up Texans might even get some rain tonight – – happy days! 🎃🍁⛈️

When great trees fall,

When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.

When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.

We will never forget.

The following excerpt is from the book “Redeemed” by Heather King. The author writes of the last few moments of Melissa Doi’s life (one of the thousands, who died in that terrible day) and of her conversation with the dispatcher who stayed on the phone with her.

The operator tried to calm her down, but a few minutes later, Doi panicked, “I’m going to die, aren’t I?“, she asked. “No no, no,” the operator replied. “I’m going to die.”Doi repeated. “Say your prayers,” the operator replied. “Oh God it’s so hot. I’m burning up,” Doi replied. Several minutes later, the line on her end went silent. And here’s the thing really, in a way – – one of the very few things we have to hold onto: the operator continued to speak to her for another 20 minutes, ‘soothingly’, according to the Los Angeles Times article, repeating Doi’s name over and over, calling her “dear”
