2012. I was sleeping the floor of Bay’s SRO in Chinatown. Makin mad beats on the MPC with Bay’s records. It was great times. I had been filming with Salmon for about a year for Rock n Roll but to be honest I was so young and fried and while I knew from the footage and knowing Salmon’s skill it was going to be A1, I had no idea that it would turn into what it did. The premiere at the Roxy off 16th n Valencia blew my mind, it was packed to the Gil’s. Everyone who has anyone in SF skateboarding was there and we took it to the moon. I think Dave (RIP A🧸) took every single drug that night. He flew under a car three times while filming his part hahaha. I miss him. He was so great. We were so lucky. I remember Salmon the whole time was just like I only care about a sick premiere and a party with my friends. He was adamant about shellin out the big bucks to see it on the screen with the sound roaring proper surrounded by all the boys. It was called RocknRoll for a reason, which I honestly thought was kinda corny until it started gaining some swing and it all made sense after meeting Salmon and feeling his vibe. He really pushed me to do a lot of these tricks and I remember being at the premiere not even remembering what tricks I had and then seeing it and hearing the song, my friends epic banger of a tune Run DMT - Romantic (sry Corey I used it first 😘 @coreyglick_ still love u doggy). It was insane. The crowd that night, the party, the lads. I will never forget it for the rest of my life. Anywho Heres the raw clip of my ender from that video. It’s on a rail in a part of Chinatown banks park that no one skate’s. To my knowledge I was the first one to touch it. Tried to go back n shoot à photo w EP but couldn’t land it. Can’t replicate days like that. The sketchy euro dudes…Nathan Porter walking up with his girlfriend. My childhood hero turned friend and spiritual guru who taught me a lot of things when I was young in the Bay Area. Anywho. My fav part is Fernys reaction at the end. That’s my bruv. He just got married. Congratulations Ferny we love you! Ty Salmon for everything. Rock n Roll. taken in San Francisco, California by @seenmr4000

Let me out
I can’t get ahead
I can’t find a bed that works for me
They all set me on fire
Nothin’ here
Nothin’ here that’s left for me
It’s to the bone
Do you believe in destiny she said
Cuz you can take it a lot farther than here and you know it
You never wanted to be a poet…

It's hard to say when I first met Dave. Must have been around 16, he was friends with my buddy Fuzz that lived just off Austin blvd, back then we called him "Bagelman." He was from the Westside and I dunno how Fuzz knew him but he'd be over at his house while we were all hanging out and it was there I must have first met him. Bagelman. The name itself was intriguing. He was quiet, very quiet. But poised. His intelligence shown not by what he said but by what he didn't. He was cool, calm, spoke slow with a classic Westside tone heavily influenced by the south, almost country but westside flavored. He smoked n drank with us but I never saw him go too hard. He was never off his square. We became friends immediately. I think mostly due to our love of hip hop. At that point i considered myself a "head" and there weren't many around me who were on my level. I was knee deep in an MPC1000 by 18 scratching cassette tapes running drums through god knows what. I was a geek. Still am. We resonated over our love of similar artists and began what would end up being a lifelong friendship that took us across the pond to Europe. Dave is the most talented story teller I know. Thats it thats all. He is a gift to Chicago storytelling in the same canon as Nelson Algren. The title of this project is called WESTSIDE STORY because well... thats what it is. We were both born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, me in a hospital on Austin, the literal street carving deeper the lines of segregation. With Oak Park even building cul-de-sacs all along Austin... "since 1964 to about 1977 Oak Park, IL built cul-de-sacs as a means to limit the traffic from a growing black population in the Austin area, which Oak Park, IL shares a border with." This has always been an issue close to my heart. You know. AS A WHITE BOY. FROM OP. WHO LIVES ON JACKSON BLVD. ONE OF THE MAIN VEINS TO AND FROM THE WESTSIDE. This project is close to my heart for several reasons. 1, Dave is one of my best friends and he deserves the world. He deserves to be up there w MIKE n EARL n them. N 2nd. MY WHOLE LIFE I'VE GROWN UP AROUND RACISM IN CHICAGO AND IM TIRED OF OF IT. PERHAPS THIS STORY WILL ADVANCE THE ISSUE. taken in Westside Chicago by @seenmr4000

Nina Simone - I want a little sugar in my bowl. One of my all time favorites. She was ahead of her time by miles and miles and made some of the most interesting and diverse and human music known to man. We are lucky to have her songs. I downloaded her whole discography when i was 15 on Napster and fell in love. If I had to name my favorite artist of all time it would be Nina Simone. Rest in Peace, I’ve been singing this song since I was 15 to myself so it’s right at home and I gave it all I got. by @seenmr4000
