VACANCES a new film by Victoria Hely-Hutchinson Premieres and upcoming screenings: October 19 — DocLisboa October 22 — DocLisboa October 25 — Ji.hlava IDFF October 26 — DocLAFest October 30 — Ji.hlava IDFF November 2 — Ji.hlava IDFF (Links in bio) Shot over the course of a decade at a sun-drenched villa in Provence, Vacances follows ‘Granny’, a bohemian Austro-Hungarian countess, as she imparts wisdom by the pool and looks for a successor among her descendants. Wearing swimsuits, the younger family members navigate her complex world, regressing under her scrutiny and resisting her advice. As summers pass and Granny’s influence fades, her heirs reassess her arcane teachings. They start to separate the valuable from the vexing in her legacy, readying themselves to move beyond the villa after the film’s final summer. We’ve added a Sheffield screening of How To Feed a Dictator to our upcoming year-round programming! 📣 🎬 This gripping documentary explores five brutal regimes through the eyes of the chefs who served them. Catch it at @showroom_cinema on Monday 3 August, 6pm. 👉 That's alongside our DocFest Spotlights screening at @berthadochouse, London on Monday 27 July, 6:20pm — followed by a Q&A with director Andrew Neel. 🎟️ Grab your tickets: https://www.sheffdocfest.com/year-round-screenings-events 👉 Through recipes, rituals and remembrance, a portrait emerges of power, manipulation and the quiet ways ordinary people become entangled in extraordinary violence. Loyalty, denial, fear, even thrill, each chef carries their experience differently, yet together they reveal how dictatorship gets under the skin of everyone it touches. How to Feed a Dictator is darkly funny, deeply human and impossible to shake, proof that the most revealing place to understand a regime is not the war room but the kitchen. by @seethinkfilms
