We already know we’re strong. We’ve had to be. 🪽❤️‍🩹🪽

Living with sickle cell means fighting battles people can’t always see. So when we open up about our pain, our exhaustion, or the things we’re struggling with, telling us to “fight harder” doesn’t always motivate us. Sometimes, it just makes us feel like our experiences are being minimized.

You don’t know how hard someone is already fighting behind closed doors. You don’t know what it takes just to get through the day.

We need understanding, not judgment. Support, not comparisons. And compassion that doesn’t come with conditions.

You can acknowledge someone’s strength without making them prove it to you. 🗣️

Does going viral help you win, or can it hurt you in the long run? 👀 I sat down with Young Arab to ask the questions people are curious about but the conversation went deeper than business and social media. 🎤

Watch until the end… you don’t want to miss this one. 🔥

Where are my other Gene Therapians? 👀🧬

I know I can’t be the only one navigating life after gene therapy. I want to connect with others who have been through this journey, hear your experiences, and learn how things have been going for you.

What treatment did you receive, and how long has it been since your procedure? Drop a comment or reach out. Let’s connect. 🤝🏾

Gene therapy is more than the treatment itself. It’s the preparation, the recovery, the side effects and everything you have to learn along the way. 🧬

From physical restrictions and nutrition precautions to managing the unexpected, recovery is a journey that deserves more attention.

I’m sharing my experience with Lyfgenia gene therapy because I want people to understand what happens beyond the headlines. Not to influence anyone’s decision, but to give people a real perspective on what this process can look like.

The medicine is groundbreaking, but the recovery is real. And two people can have very different experiences.

This is my life, my experience and what I’m still learning. ❤️‍🩹

This isn’t just content. This is my LIFE.
I’m not doing this to change the system overnight, or create confrontation with the anyone involved in my care.

I’m looking for answers. I’m looking for understanding. I’m trying to understand what happens when the treatment that was supposed to change your life starts to feel ditterent, when you have questions about your health, and when you’re trying to make sense of what comes next. I want to hear from the people who are genuinely trying to help us, who are willing to listen, ask hard questions, and work toward understanding.
Please don’t mistake my willingness to speak out for a desire for attention. This isn’t about views, likes, or chasing some temporary dopamine hit from social media. There are real people behind these posts. Real pain. Real uncertainty. Real consequences. And honestly, this is why it gets so hard to keep showing up, to keep opening up, and to keep responding. Because sharing your reality publicly means reliving parts of it while trying to explain something that people may never fully understand unless they’ve lived it themselves.
I’m not looking for a fight. I’m looking for clarity.

I’m looking for accountability where it’s needed, understanding where there are gaps, and genuine collaboration with the people who care about what happens to us. Because when you’re the one living it, this isn’t a discussion for engagement. This is your life.

I came across this and had to read it because of how eerily similar it felt to my own experience. Honestly, I almost cried.

I know I don’t have to explain myself, but this felt too close to home not to share. After spending so much time trying to put my own experience after gene therapy into words, reading someone else’s experience that mirrored mine made me feel seen and heard in a way that’s hard to explain.

Gene therapy is just as individualized as sickle cell disease itself. We can have the same diagnosis and undergo the same treatment, yet experience completely different outcomes.

I’m sharing this not to discourage anyone, but because the full reality of life after treatment deserves to be heard, too. The improvements, the setbacks, the uncertainty, and the feelings that are sometimes difficult to put into words.

Lately I’ve been questioning everything. What if the universe was never asking me to become someone different? What if I was supposed to learn how to love the person I already was?

I survived things I never thought I’d survive. I chased the possibility of a different life believing that maybe I could finally escape the pain that had followed me for so long. But now, after everything I’ve experienced since gene therapy, I find myself wrestling with a question I can’t seem to shake…

What if I was already enough?

Sometimes I wonder if life is trying to teach me something I was too desperate to understand back then. Not that I deserved this suffering, but that maybe somewhere along the way I started believing that I needed to be changed to be worthy of a life without pain.

I don’t know what force if any is behind the things we experience. I don’t know why certain lessons seem to find us in the darkest moments. And I refuse to pretend I have the answers. But I’m starting to understand that accepting myself and hoping for something better were never supposed to be mutually exclusive.

Maybe I didn’t need to become a different version of myself to deserve peace. Maybe the person I was before all of this was worthy of that peace, too. And maybe the greatest lesson isn’t learning how to survive another storm… but learning not to abandon yourself while trying to escape one. 🕊️❤️‍🔥🕊️

Men’s mental health matters. Protecting our children matters. And holding people accountable matters.

We need to create spaces where men feel comfortable speaking their truth without being judged or silenced. At the same time we have a responsibility to protect our kids and take concerns about child predators seriously. If there are credible allegations or serious concerns surrounding someone’s name then why are we inviting them to the function in the first place? Protect the children. Set boundaries. Stop prioritizing somebody’s reputation over everybody else’s safety.

Shoutout to Reggie for speaking his truth and having the courage to speak on something that a lot of people would rather stay quiet about. Real conversations are uncomfortable sometimes but they’re necessary. 💯

Gene therapy was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

The preparation.
The chemotherapy.
The pain.
The mucositis.
The weight loss.
The uncertainty.

There were moments when I had to dig deeper than I ever had before just to keep going.

But somewhere along that journey, I changed.

I met nurses, doctors, patients, caregivers, friends and people who became a part of my life that I’ll never forget.

Every person taught me something.
Every experience shaped me.
Every hard day made me stronger.

Gene therapy changed my life.

But the journey changed me.

I learned that you can want something with everything in you, but wanting it isn’t always enough.

Sometimes you need that fight.

That discipline.

That DOG in you that says:

“I’M NOT DONE YET.”

Whatever you’re chasing in this life, understand that the road probably won’t be easy.

You’re going to get tested.
You’re going to get tired.
You’re going to question yourself.

But keep fighting.

Keep believing.

Keep moving.

Because you might surprise yourself with just how far you can go.

I’m grateful for every person who became part of my journey.

Every conversation.
Every lesson.
Every hard day.
Every person who helped me make it through.

This journey shaped me.

And I’m still here. 🩸
