A mother’s love is the heart of every home. ✨

I spent hours with my brushes, pouring prayer into every detail of this painting to honor Mama Mary on her birthday. Her quiet strength and grace are something I always look to for peace, and I wanted to capture that warmth on canvas.

It’s a beautiful reminder of her protection for any family prayer corner or living room. 🌸🎨

If you’d love to have this reminder of Mama Mary in your own home, high-quality prints are available.

We didn’t have umbrellas. We had imagination.

Growing up in the rural provinces of the Philippines, a sudden afternoon downpour didn’t mean calling a ride or pulling a branded umbrella from our backpacks. For a family struggling to make ends meet, an umbrella was a luxury we couldn’t afford.

But when the school bell rang and the rain poured, we didn’t cry. We adapted. My classmates and I would run to the nearest banana trees, harvest a giant leaf, and hold it over our heads as we walked miles back home. One single leaf was our shield, our laughter, and our bond. We’d squeeze three kids under one leaf, doing everything we could just to keep our school notebooks dry.

We grew up with very little, but the province taught us a different kind of wealth—resourcefulness, community, and a spirit that no storm could wash away.

Looking back, those rainy days didn’t feel like poverty. They felt like pure survival and childhood magic.

Honestly, it feels like those lights are fading. Traditional dances are getting harder to find at festivals now, and it made me really homesick.

That’s why I painted this. I used gouache for the dark midnight sky and thick oil pastels to make the candles bleed right into the starlight. I miss the Pandanggo sa Ilaw so much, and I really hope we get to see our streets burn bright with this magic again soon. ❤️
