Why understanding white balance is so important. And why you should never shoot on auto. An excerpt from my longform video. #cinematography #filmmaking #whitebalance by @seigherbrown

Color temperature is the color of the light source, White balance is your cameras compensation internally for that light source. If you have a 2700k (incandescent) source and set your cameras white balance to 3200k (tungsten balance) the light will look a little warm. The higher you raise your WB the light will continue to become warmer. If you lower your WB, the Camera will compensate by adding blue to neutralize the warmth of the light. Understanding the difference and not relying on auto settings is important. Part of my yt video. Link in Bio for the full episode. #cinematography #cameras #whitebalance by @seigherbrown

Dimming Tungsten and LED bulbs side by side to compare them. Both set to 2700k and dimmed the same amount. Part of my latest longform video. #cinematography #filmmmaking #tungsten by @seigherbrown

Have genuinely been loving this new shotgun mic from @saramonicusa. I field testsd it on a super windy August day and it held up! Very impressive 👌 #filmmaking #filmsound by @seigherbrown

I’ve been testing the Saramonic SG Mic and it’s been a really solid option for dialogue. It has a tight supercardioid pickup pattern that helps keep voices clear while cutting down a lot of the sound coming from the sides. The sound and build quality both punch well above its price, bridging the gap between consumer and professional microphones. With everything you'd expect from professional grade mic, at a fraction of the cost. Link in bio. Use code Brown10 for 10% off. by @seigherbrown

Been wanting to play around with water caustics for a while now. So I decided to take the time to build a scene around them. Let me know what you think. @filmconvert emulations were used to create the final grade. #filmmaking #Cinematography #lighting by @seigherbrown

Before FilmConvert became a plugin, the team had to figure out how different digital cameras responded to color and light, then match that footage to the characteristics of actual film stocks. That meant testing film, profiling cameras, and building a process that could account for the original image before adding the color and texture associated with film. This clip comes from my full video on the history of film emulation and how that process became part of the digital workflow. @filmconvert #FilmConvert #FilmEmulation #FilmLook #Cinematography #ColorGrading Filmmaking by @seigherbrown

Everybody wants the film look, so I wanted to know where it actually started. My latest video traces the history of film emulation, from the earliest experiments that converted film images into digital information to the tools filmmakers now use to recreate film color, grain, halation, and texture within a digital workflow. Since the early 2010s, @filmconvert has helped bring film emulation to a new generation of filmmakers, giving emerging creators access to tools built around the measured characteristics of film. #FilmConvert #FilmEmulation #FilmLook #Cinematography #ColorGrading by @seigherbrown

I taught Wren to orbit in 1 day. Love this dog so much. The play dead is all Chelsea though. Gotta give her credit for that one 🤣 #dogs #dogsofinstagram by @seigherbrown
