Quarterly Member Executive Board meetings are about more than union business - they're where leaders come together to learn, share ideas, and strengthen the work we do for our members and communities.

We were proud to host one of our largest Executive Board meetings in Fresno this past month! Together, we:
✅ Swore in new Executive Board delegates from Santa Cruz
🎉 Celebrated our June primary election victories
💜 Welcomed Planned Parenthood Mar Monte members to the SEIU Local 521 family
👏 Honored Regional Vice President Debbie Acosta on her retirement after more than 30 years of dedicated service with Fresno Unified.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming over 100 family child care providers and their families to our Fresno Benefits Fair with @seiu521, where providers received one-on-one support and learned more about their union-won benefits in health care, retirement, and training.

The debate to keep 📚Fresno County libraries public is delayed, not decided.

The news coverage and public support from Monday’s joint efforts between County of Fresno librarians in our union, elected leaders, and patrons has been explosive!

Thousands of Fresno County library patrons are engaging online and offline with the Keep Libraries Public campaign in record numbers, and the pressure is working!

A presentation on library privatization is no longer on the agenda during the Fresno County Board of Supervisors’ October 20 meeting; however, the issue is not off the table.

A new makeup of the Board of Supervisors starts a new term on January 2027 and may revisit privatization. It’s on us, the people, to voice our position to Keep Libraries Public NOW and for future generations to come.

Keep your plans to attend the Fresno County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, October 20 at the Hall of Records at 9:30 am. Keep Fresno Libraries Public! 📚

Fresno County librarians and library support staff are proud to have joined Fresno City Councilmember Mike Karbassi at Sunnyside Regional Library and praise his office for advancing a City Council resolution opposing the potential privatization of more than 30 Fresno County library branches.

Fresno County Board of Supervisors Luis Chavez and President of Friends of Fresno County Library Shannon Wise also provided remarks at the press event and displayed the depth and scale of the opposition to privatization.

🖊️ Victory! AB 1981, the True Cost of Care Act by @asmaguiarcurry has been signed into law. Thousands of us traveled to Sacramento and legislator district offices, made calls, sent emails, and posted on social media and it WORKED!

Governor @gavinnewsom has signed it into law, and because of providers' fight, California's next Governor will inherit a clear path to finally paying providers the full cost of care.

‼️ With Governor Gavin Newsom's signature, AB 1981 will:

✅ Move California closer to cost of care rates
✅ Reduce further delays to updating our payment structure

While providers operate in a deficit each month as our costs of running our businesses skyrocket, we need a payment structure that meets the #truecostofcare NOW.

Our fight isn't over yet.

Congressman David Valadao promised to protect healthcare funding, then voted to cut healthcare to give a tax cut to rich.

Our 3rd Executive Board meeting this Saturday in Fresno was filled with solidarity and growing worker power! ✊

We celebrated our California Gig Workers Union members following their historic unionizing victory and welcomed two new Executive Board members: Region 4 VP Misty Dennis from Fresno County and Delegate Lilia Jacobo from Santa Clara County.

Our board got to work with finalizing our endorsements for the November 3 election and kicked off our member mobilization efforts!

Thank you to SEIU Local 521-endorsed Congressional candidate, Randy Villegas @villegasforcongress for joining us and energizing our spirits.
