He would probably make fun of me for making this post… but I’m really going to miss you, Andrew.

I had several classes with Andrew throughout high school, but it was junior-year physics that I got to know him. We talked all about music and Bob Dylan (of course). Then our paths crossed again when I started at Beloit College during the second semester of freshman year. Andrew and his friends were so welcoming and brought me right into the group like I had been there since the beginning.

Andrew had a memory like no one I’ve ever known. He could reference a moment, remember the date, who was there, and everything. It’s no wonder he loved history so much.

Recently, he started sending me postcards with updates on how he was doing. He remembered that I collected old postcards back in college, and each one would start with something like, “I know you like old postcards, so here you go...”

I’m going to miss his big hearty laugh, our birthday phone calls, and the texts he’d send showing off the flower arrangements he was so proud of, always asking, “How did I do?”

The last few photos are from the last time I visited Andrew in Minneapolis last December. We made brownies, ate pizza, he showed me his latest flower arrangements (and asked how he did), and he taught me how to make these very cool ice sculpture/candleholders. In the last photo, he’s asking my opinion on where to put the newest one. I will always treasure that special wintry afternoon.
He had undergone an emergency surgery just a month or so before, and you never would have known. The positivity and bravery he showed throughout his diagnosis was truly inspiring.
I’m sending so much love to his wife, his two kids, his parents, his brothers, and his friends and family all over the world.

I’m really looking forward to participating in Chicago’s Walk MS this Sunday!

In 2019, my boyfriend, Brendan, was diagnosed with MS. Over the past couple of years, he has participated in a study run by Dr. Terry Wahls, exploring how different diets and lifestyle regimens may affect MS symptoms. Seeing this journey up close has shown me firsthand how important research is in changing lives.

Last year, in addition to multiple long-distance endurance races, he completed his first sprint triathlon, and this year he’s taking on a full triathlon. What started as a study has grown into a complete lifestyle transformation. His dedication and drive continues to inspire me every day, and I’m so proud! 🧡
