Heading into year 26 of the classroom. I have great colleagues and the best team of educators @eledvalpo helping to prepare the next generation of teachers. Thank you to my students for trusting me to help you find your calling in the classroom. There’s no place I’d rather be! #teacher #valpo #academic taken in Valparaiso University by @selinabartels

On the day before school opens again for the fall I’m thinking back to how productive I was on an academic writing retreat! A few years ago my writing was feeling stalled out then I started focusing on each summer by getting a writing coach. Each summer I have met amazing women academics and wrote my brains out! Thank you for this space, sharing your stories and for providing me time to write. taken in DREAMCATCHER by DW by @selinabartels

Voyagers National Park was my 50th park and I went canoe camping for the first time! It was so calm and serene. We canoed, jumped off docks and stayed in a historic lodge (the bar here is EPIC). Don’t sleep on this Midwest gem it’s perfection! #nationalparks #roadtrip taken in Voyagers National Park by @selinabartels

It’s been a decade since I walked across the PhD stage as a first gen scholar for the third time. I think about all the teachers and mentors I’ve had to become the teacher I am today. I reflect on the students I’ve had in my classes from my first third grade class, Arai and Uplift to now in my college classrooms. I hope I filled you with as much joy and love of learning as you have for me! I now watch the class of 2026 head out to find their calling in the classroom to change the lives of their future students and I couldn’t be more proud! Every year I don’t think I could love a group of students more! Thank you for letting me be your teacher! Congrats class of 2026! @eledvalpo taken in Valparaiso University by @selinabartels
