almost made it to the end of our little inWaves UK tour. 🌊 it’s been a journey of thrills and spills, bringing this EP and its live performance into new corners and connecting with new people and audiences. booking and promoting most of the shows myself, in cities i’d never played before, was a mighty risk and a grand undertaking. i’m endlessly grateful to everyone who took a chance on us and came along to join us somewhere along the way. @marinayozora has been the most tremendous supporter i could ever dream of. i’m so happy she was able to join me for most of the shows, and that so many of you came out to see her perform too. @dmniqmusic and their band were a truly gorgeous discovery in brighton, and @lim.orion’s album launch in london, alongside @constancesojourner and promoted by @barknoise, felt like a small, mystical beginning of beginnings. ✨ i’m still in recovery and dialling back in after all the racing around and heavy lifting, but i’m gearing up with much anticipation for @wildatheartsessions in glasgow next week. thank you to everyone who has listened to and supported inWaves in some way. it means a lot to my soul to have this music in motion, finding its way into new ears and making its own meanings for strangers. may the waves keep rolling. 🌊🌊🌊 ~ a muddle of photos from @marinayozora, @ryanfellofftheswing, @seb.biel, @delain_insane and yours, truly. ~ #independentmusic #ambientpop #scottishmusician #diytouring #dreamsarealive by @selkiesound

sharing wip clips and bts of the making of inWaves, sprinkled with ideas and moments that formed parts of the journey over the last few years. the EP as a whole came from and moved through many darknesses to get here, which is why it took so long to fully arrive. despite this, i believe it holds a gentleness and a lightness, that I’m hopeful listeners feel the embrace of when they play it in their headphones. i plan to break down and flip each song inside out via my mailing list. you can sign up in my bio if you want to catch that when it comes. but first i’m preparing the tour. we kick off in bristol in no more and no less than 10 days, and i’m excited to reunite with @marinayozora for most of these shows. see you somewhere! inWaves credits ~ performed: selkie written, composed, arranged + produced: kristina cox additional guitar engineering on “swimming”: nskd additional synths on “hours”: patrick cairns additional voice + drum production on “hours”, + drum production on “lick the sun”: koda.sonic mixed + mastered: koda.sonic artwork photography: wamhapi #ambientpop #diytour #indiemusician #ethereal #downtempo by @selkiesound
this year seems to have moved more hastily than any i can remember. last year, in particular, held a kind of constant motion, but also a slowness that felt sweet and balming. i believe i was still cooling my feet in the kamogawa this time last year. currently, i'm warming myself beneath a blanket with a cup of tea, realising i'd forgotten how to pause, and feeling as though i missed much of the brief but lovely scottish summer working at my desk to bring inWaves into the world. now at home with a little space to land before setting off again at the end of the month, i want to notice the skies, the changing leaves and the smell of the park after it rains. i want to turn the pages of many books. i want to feel alive and living for a spell. no sadness or regret. simply an acknowledgement of the breath of air i can take, before diving into my next season of work. it feels necessary. 🌬️ by @selkiesound
