What if becoming never really ends?

There is a moment when you realize that the person you are today is not the person you once imagined becoming.

And perhaps that is the beauty of it.

Cycle of Becoming is a visual journey through that space between who we were, who we are, and who we are still becoming.

The bicycle became my metaphor for this journey.

You cannot remain still and keep your balance. You have to move.

You fall.
You pause.
You learn.
You protect yourself.
You begin again.

The gloves, the changing identities, the different hairstyles, the movement of the body all become fragments of a larger story.

A story that is not only mine.

It is a story we all carry.

This video takes you behind the meaning of Cycle of Becoming and into the thoughts, symbols, and emotions that shaped the series.

Watch closely.

You may recognize a version of yourself somewhere along the way.

I fell. I got back on. I kept moving.

That is where Cycles of Becoming begins.

I have always been fascinated by the versions of ourselves that appear as life changes us.

The person we were.
The person we became.
And the person we are still becoming.

In this series, the bicycle is more than an object. It is a mirror of life requiring movement, patience, courage, and balance.

The gloves speak of what we learn along the way: how to protect ourselves, how to hold on, and how to keep moving even when the journey becomes uncertain.

Every hairstyle, every garment, every posture carries a different version of the same journey.

I painted these works not because I believe I have figured life out, but because I am still figuring it out too.

Maybe you are.

Maybe we all are.

So, Cycles of Becoming is not simply an exhibition about a woman riding a bicycle.

It is about you.

The falls you survived.
The versions of yourself you outgrew.
The parts you protected.
The balance you are still trying to find.

And the courage to get back on.

Title: Identity In Motion
Year: 2026
Medium: Acrylics and Gloss on Canvas
Size: 40 by 53inches

Identity in Motion
She does not wait to become she moves.
Through tangled lines and shifting form, her identity is not fixed but forged in motion.
Every thread, every stroke, carries the weight of becoming complex, evolving, alive.
She rides forward, not fully defined, yet fully herself. by @semblancerealism

Title: CROWNED IN ANCESTRY

Size: 40 by 52inches

CROWNED IN ANCESTRY

This piece is a quiet proclamation of heritage where identity is not worn lightly, but carried with grace and depth. The figure emerges through layers of thread and texture, suggesting that who she is has been stitched over time, shaped by memory, lineage, and lived experience. Her headwrap rests like a crown not ornamental, but symbolic marking her as a bearer of culture, dignity, and inherited strength.

The pearls evoke a sense of timeless elegance, yet in this context, they become more than adornment they are fragments of history, echoing stories passed down through generations. The surface of her skin, fragmented and reconstructed, speaks to the complexity of African identity resilient, evolving, yet deeply rooted.

Crowned in Ancestry is not just a portrait it is a presence. A reminder that beneath every surface lies a lineage, and within every woman, a quiet royalty shaped by those who came before her.

The Journey to Saga

Bamboo walls. Big dreams.

My team and I were reached out to by @Slum2School for a community that already feels like home Saga. Over time, we’ve volunteered through murals, sip-and-paint sessions, and creative outreach.

This time, the call was different.
To artistically transform a school built with bamboo walls.
To turn simple materials into powerful stories.
To create a space where children can dream beyond their environment.

Art met purpose.
Community met commitment.
This is impact in its purest form.

@otto_orondaam Thank You

The Weight of Becoming

Becoming is not light.
It carries memories, expectations, quiet battles, and unseen growth.
Every scratch, layer, and texture holds the pressure of who we were
and the courage it takes to become who we are meant to be.

Some weights don’t break us
they shape us.

The Keeper of the Ancestral Chronicles

This work is a tribute to memory, resistance, and continuity. The woman stands as a vessel carrying the voices and sacrifices of our ancestors. Within the textured background are fragments of history: Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and others who paved the way through courage and struggle.
The Afro becomes a living archive, while layered scribbles and textures reflect how history is often obscured, yet never erased. You must look closely to truly see.
Created in a season of personal loss, this piece holds absence and legacy together. It speaks of guardianship of remembering, and of carrying history forward as light.

It was a beautiful night of laughter, camaraderie and amazement. Print of my soul opens up a time of participation in individual experiences and collective experience as each artist share their peculiarity to the world around.

The opening not only marks an emergence of conviction for the exhibiting artists, it was a reminder of the life they have chosen. To be an artist is to live in impact, to showcase fragments of the innermost that makes up our beings. Viewers were not left out as they were immersed in the expression of self discovery and awareness of each exhibiting artist

Show runs till 2nd of Jan, 2025. You still have the chance to interact with colours and share in the unfiltered experiences and inner truth each piece on reflects.
