Kullu Dussehra is a centuries-old religious and cultural festival celebrated in Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India. Its history dates back to the 17th century, during the reign of Raja Jagat Singh.
The historical story
According to local tradition, Raja Jagat Singh once heard that a Brahmin named Durgadutt possessed precious pearls. The king wanted to obtain them, but the situation ended tragically, and Durgadutt died. The king subsequently suffered deep mental distress and guilt.
A holy man advised the king to bring Lord Raghunath, a form of Lord Rama, from Ayodhya to Kullu. The idol was brought to Kullu, and Raja Jagat Singh accepted Lord Raghunath as the principal deity of his kingdom. This is traditionally associated with the establishment of Kullu Dussehra around 1651.
From then onward, Lord Raghunath became central to the religious life of the valley, and the festival developed into a major annual gathering of local deities.Every year, hundreds of village deities arrive in decorated palanquins at Dhalpur Ground. The grand chariot procession of Lord Raghunath is the main attraction. The festival begins on Vijayadashami and continues for approximately seven days. Unlike many other Dussehra celebrations, it does not centre on burning Ravana's effigy.

I am a Buddhist, and in Buddhism, we do not believe in disrespecting or separating people based on their religion. For us, every religion deserves equal respect.

Our purpose is not to divide people, but to bring people together. We believe in peace, harmony, compassion, and walking together with everyone, regardless of their religion, beliefs, or background.

For us, humanity comes first. We believe in connecting hearts, not creating divisions. This is the message and the purpose we try to follow in our lives.
