GARBHA WEDANA: A STORY BEFORE IT BEGINS Before something is born, it is first held, nurtured, and given time to take shape. For its debut exhibition, Dyurupa presents Garbha Wedana: A Story Before It Begins — an exploration of the space before creation, where ideas, experiences, doubts, memories, and possibilities slowly develop before becoming a work of art. Drawing from the Balinese Hindu tradition of Magedong-gedongan and the Javanese Mitoni/Tingkeban, the exhibition reflects on the idea of the womb not only as a biological space, but as a sacred space of preparation, care, prayer, and possibility. The idea is then brought into the creative process: every artwork has its own “before.” A moment when an idea is still uncertain, a material is being explored, or a thought is still searching for its form. Featuring works by 20 artists, Garbha Wedana becomes a space to look beyond the finished artwork and into the processes, questions, and possibilities that come before it. For Dyurupa, this is Episode Zero — not quite the beginning, but the space before the story begins.
