Emerging from UK sound system culture, Jungle and Drum & Bass were experienced as much through the body as through the ears. Powerful sub-bass frequencies created an intensely embodied musical experience, felt as physical pressure waves throughout the body. This installation extends that multisensory tradition by introducing flavour as another sensory channel through which music can be communicated and experienced. Flavour is already a multi sensory experience: it emerges through the convergence of taste, aroma and texture

This installation @zagrebdesignweek invites visitors to experience the evolution of the sounds of Jungle and then Drum & Bass through flavour.

A flavour framework was developed around 12 historically significant styles within the two genres. Each style was analysed to identify its musical character and atmosphere before being translated into a flavour identity and realised as an edible jelly cube using natural ingredients and colouring.

Visitors will explore the installation by listening to each musical style while tasting its corresponding flavour, discovering how the musical identity of the genres evolved across a decade.

The Many Flavours of Jungle & Drum & Bass proposes flavour as a method for interpreting and communicating musical styles. What happens when listening extends beyond the ears? Can flavour become another way of listening?

Genre-defining sounds are paired with specially composed genre-specific fragrances shaped by the sounds, transforming music from somethilng you hear into something you can also smell

The first wave of Sensations Lab releases is incoming this autumn — a series of sensory narratives designed to be felt, not just consumed.
These aren’t just products — they’re experiences. Each one is composed from unique combinations of sound, scent, flavour, and touch, crafted to guide you toward a specific feeling, memory, or state of mind.

Our releases are organised through three distinct pathways — Smound Recordings, mmmSensolious, and Multi-Sensory Listening Rituals — each exploring the narrative power of the senses in different ways.

Thanks to everyone braving the ❄️arctic❄️ weather outside for an evening of multi-sense music at @sameheads!

The Analogue Multi-Sense Broadcast was presented by @sensations.lab and streamed live on Heads Radio.

Smounds of the UK Underground (smell + sound DJ set) brings together 12 musical genres with 12 scents. Reimagining the raw, defiant spirit of the UK underground through a unique scent + sound experience.

In collaboration with Simon Knight of @sensationslab for this special project, I translated sound into scent.

A distinct aroma of ‘kellarluft‘ once reigned Berlin’s basement dancefloors. Today, descend into a cloud of fragrant, specially composed essences✨👃✨

The Smound of the UK Underground.

The unruly engine behind the sounds and scents of @sensations.lab ✨👂👃✨ It was a place of other eras, and of other smounds. By reimagining the analog legacy, the essence of the Smound Analog System is seen through unprecedented access to Berlin’s elusive, raw, and unapologetic warehouse rave spaces.

Founded in 2025, this work produces experimental scent technology to enhance sonic exploration across a range of curated listening events and cultural programming.

Revitalised with the Smound System’s custom scent diffusion, these performances pass the torch from the most forward-thinking music of the early electronic era onto the next generation of off-screen, multi-sense, feel-good experiences.

is a pathway of Sensations Lab that, through research and releases, explores the potential of multi-sensory listening to positively influence emotional states.

These rituals bring together sound with taste, nutrition, scent, breathwork, massage, and eye-movement techniques.
Combined into carefully designed narratives, they form multi-sensory experiences that extend the present moment, reducing space for intrusive or negative thought patterns.

By engaging the body as well as the mind, Multi-Sensory Listening Rituals create both physiological and psychological shifts, supporting emotional regulation, presence, and wellbeing.
