Cette chaise est, selon moi, l’une des plus belles de son époque. Elle a été conçue et produite entre 1978 et 1980 par le Studio Alchimia, juste avant que son créateur, Ettore Sottsass, ne fonde le groupe Memphis. La Seggiolina da Pranzo rappelle les chaises de cuisine modernistes en stratifié aux couleurs pastel des années 1950 et 1960, évoquant une période d’élan et d’optimisme qui s’est prolongée dans les années 1970. La Seggiolina da Pranzo est considérée comme un manifeste du design radical. En sublimant des matériaux industriels bon marché typiques d’après-guerre, Sottsass a prouvé que le design pouvait être provocateur, narratif et poétique, s’éloignant du fonctionnalisme rigide de l’époque, et introduisant une dimension sensorielle et émotionnelle aux objets du quotidien.

In my opinion, this chair is one of the most beautiful of its time. It was designed and produced between 1978 and 1980 by Studio Alchimia, just before its creator, Ettore Sottsass, founded the Memphis Group. The Seggiolina da Pranzo is reminiscent of the modernist kitchen chairs made of pastel-colored laminate from the 1950s and 1960s, evoking a period of momentum and optimism that carried over into the 1970s. The Seggiolina da Pranzo is considered a manifesto of radical design. By elevating the humble, inexpensive industrial materials typical of the postwar era, Sottsass proved that design could be provocative, narrative, and poetic, moving away from the rigid functionalism of the time and introducing a sensory and emotional dimension to everyday objects.

Il y a quelques mois, lors d’une conversation avec @galeriechristinediegoni , elle m’a demandé quelle était la pièce de design de mes rêves. Après hésitation, j’ai finalement répondu la chaise Seggiolina da Pranzo d’Ettore Sottsass. C’est une pièce rare sur le marché, créée entre 1978 et 1980, juste avant la formation du groupe Memphis. Quelques semaines plus tard, par hasard, j’en ai trouvé une, comme par miracle. J’avais du mal à y croire, et je l’ai trouvée incroyable ! Ce sont ces moments très particuliers qui inspirent, stimulent et donnent tout son sens à ce métier complexe

After some hesitation, I finally mentioned Ettore Sottsass’s Seggiolina da Pranzo chair. It’s a rare piece on the market, created between 1978 and 1980, before the Memphis Group was founded. A few weeks later, by chance, I found one, miraculously. I could hardly believe it, and I found it incredible! It’s these very special moments that inspire, stimulate, and give true meaning to this complex job

The Amazonia vase is an iconic model from Gaetano Pesce’s body of work, part of the Fish Design collection. This one is special because it has a crown and an unusual height (32cm), also because it was manufactured after the American production run, during the preparatory phase of the first Italian series in 2004 🌼
