After reading the blog post of @mossandpurl on Princess Diana's sheep sweater, I completely fell in love with this design so I had to knit it! 😍

The original designers are Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir @muirandosborne from @warmandwonderful, which created the original sheep jumper in 1979, and became famous in the early 80s when young princess Diana began wearing it.

As @mossandpurl explains in her blog post, it is possible to download the knitting pattern for this sweater from the @msf_phop (Pennies Per Hour of Pleasure) website. The pattern is very clear and suitable also for beginners. Knitters are also encouraged to make a donation to Doctors Without Borders as a charitable campaign!

This is my youngest sister, back in Italy, happily wearing the sweater I knitted for her as a gift.

She’s a (future) vet so she loves all animals. The whale sweater fits her style and her vibe 🐳

#knittingeverywhere, New Zealand edition!

Back in early December, I traveled to New Zealand with some extended family (dad, sister no.1, aunt, and cousin) to visit my sister no.2. With a 24-hour journey from Milan to Christchurch (including just a 1.5-hour layover in Singapore!) and a road trip ahead, I figured a knitting project would be the perfect travel companion. 🧶

I started knitting on the flight there, with plenty of jealous fellow passengers asking how I managed to get knitting needles through security (never had issues with that—have you?!?!). And from that moment on, I basically didn’t stop for two weeks! Despite my best efforts, I still didn’t finish the sweater I planned to gift sister 1 for Christmas—it finally came off the 5mm needles on January 4th. 😂

But hey, at least I got to knit in some amazing (and sunny!) places! And of course, I couldn’t resist picking up some gorgeous New Zealand merino wool along the way, since I didn’t bring enough 😬

The finished sweater definitely deserves a post of its own, stay tuned! 😉

Super happy in my most used '23 summer knit!

I hacked the #maidyoulookdress pattern by @oshenknits to be fastly knitted with my flat bed knitting machine #toyotaks901. I finished the project in 3 days, right on time to leave for the holidays!

The only parts I knitted by hand were the under bust and bust, and I used circular needles. I added a short row shaping to have a curved neckline. I used a provisional cast on so that I could later hang the front and the back on the machine and knit the two skirt panels, following the shaping as per the original pattern. I then sewed the sides by hand, leaving a split on one side. I finished everything with an I-cord trim, also knitted on the machine. I also used cord stoppers to make the straps adjustable (see last pic), and old plastic beads as decoration.

I am very happy with the results, I used a lot of cotton scraps I had around the house (of course I joined them à la @laerkebagger = with knots as life is too short). taken in Tinos Island by @senza.filo

New workshop coming up!
On the 13th and 14th of May, you can find Marta @senzafilo and Veronica @veronicocco at the @maker_faire_delft, holding a workshop about embroidery! 🪡

We’ll be just next to a Vintage Kilo sale, so you can transform your new second-hand clothes into one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect your personality. We will be teaching simple embroidery stitches (no experience needed!) and you will go home with a booklet of Maker Faire inspired designs and embroidery instructions to continue your embroidery journey.
