This mural by SEOP merges graffiti art with rich Christian symbolism. The name “JESUS” is written in bold semi-wildstyle using crimson, purple, and black—colors that evoke sacrifice, royalty, and gravity. Above it, the three crosses and the empty tomb symbolize Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. The dove represents the Holy Spirit, descending in peace. On the left, the Orthodox Christogram hand gesture affirms Christ’s divine identity, while roses on the right hint at martyrdom and divine love. Together, these symbols form a visual liturgy—fusing ancient theology with urban expression.

A liminal encounter between ephemeral aerosol semiotics and the ubiquity of death and decay. The transient proliferates and eventually becomes obsolete, only the eternal Logos remains. ☦️☦️☦️

Repentance in the New Testament Greek is μετάνοια (metanoia), which means a change of mind, heart, and direction of one's life. In the Biblical Hebrew, the root is שׁוּב (shuv), to turn back or return. From this comes תשובה (teshuvah), return.

Thus, the soul is understood to turn away from sin and come back to God.

The word "sin" in Biblical Hebrew is connected to חָטָא (chata) which can be understood as "to fail" or "to miss the mark".

Thus, "to sin", understood in this way means to miss the mark of true life, which is found in Christ, the Eternal Logos and Son of God.

Therefore repentance is the return to that true and eternal mark, by turning away from sin and back to God, who gives us a new life, because man returns to his true human nature, which has been corrupted by egoism, pride, jealousy, envy, hatred, greed and all the other spiritual diseases of this fallen world.

In Christ, man therefore becomes truly human again because the corrupted image of God becomes restored and the soul is reborn, healed, and brought back to its true eternal purpose; Union with God, who is source of Love, Life and Immortality.

Memento Mori. Remember you will die. ☦️

While the heart of the Christian faith is Christ’s victory over death and the hope of eternal life through union with Him, the remembrance of death remains an essential ascetic practice within Orthodox spirituality.

To remember death is to remember that this present life is fleeting, that our passions are not worth serving, that pride is vanity, and that the soul must one day stand before God.

The Holy Scripture teaches: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12), and again: “In all you do, remember the end of your life, and then you will never sin” (Sirach 7:36).

For the Orthodox Christian, the remembrance of death is supposed to turn the gaze away from empty distractions and toward repentance, humility, prayer, and the healing of the soul. It reminds us to leave behind whatever defiles our hearts and minds, so that we may draw nearer to Christ, who alone has trampled down death by death. ☦️
