sometimes i’ll remember the times i cried during “because of mr. terupt” and “wonder” when my teachers were reading it aloud for us in english. everyone would stare or laugh, and the adults? those trusted adults i’m supposed to have respect for? looks full of disgust as they asked why i was crying.

so maybe some people won’t get these vv personal specific moments of emptiness that i feel. but i trust in this community enough to not spread contempt or shame for feeling.

abandoned by her fiance on her wedding day, hu xiu escapes to the virtual city of rongcheng for an immersive murder mystery game. through fictional plots and fake identities, she meets xiao zhiyu and gradually becomes curious about his real life persona. between illusion and reality, their paths begin to intertwine, bringing then closer together.

real ones knew that i was ready to start this drama after there was a reuter of lu yuxiao in a republican outfit. COMPLETELY SOLD FOR TS. the outfits both in the game city rongcheng and outside world as fellow architects, both chen xingxu and lu yuxiao looked so good oml. there’s a specific outfit of hu xiu where she has a blue turquoise scarf and it looks so good oml. THAT AND HER LEATHER JACKET. someone get me into her wardrobe imma steal it. (my mom acc watched the drama while i was in the city and kept taking pictures of the outfits to tell me “u should try this”)

MINOR SPOILER SCROLL AWAY U HAVE BEEN WARNED‼️ im acc grateful that we ended the drama w no engagement or married life epilogue. does it make me a little sad that there’s no concrete guarantee that they end up forever? a smidge. but ultimately the story was never about love. it was always about both characters seeking to reclaim a loss and gradually understanding and loving each other throughout their journeys. hu xiu is a career oriented girl and she’s set on being the amazing architect she is. no time for an engagement party LOL i trust that in the little fanfic world of writing someone has a marriage scene written for them.

just know that my notes app is having a field day w my read rn. i honestly tried being vv serious w it at first, trying to pinpoint things that felt too similar and specific, but then that quickly derailed and now said notes page is just me noting the little warning signs AND just my overall reaction

objectively, i can understand why people enjoyed reading it. granted, if you have never read red queen or the hunger games (or don’t remember a lot of the details), that def makes sense. i could def enjoy the aspect of supernatural abilities and the games/trials plot but so far, the way it’s being executed just seems too familiar and that’s what’s throwing me off.

character wise, idc about anyone lol. there was only one really buzzy moment which was the classic 🔪 to throat scene but that was ruined by the eventual banter. i think id be a lot giggly over paedyn and kai if the proximity and interactions weren’t shoved into our face every single scene/chapter. like they seem to exist solely for the ooo enemies to lovers romance and have no purpose outside of that despite being main characters.

i’m still only chapter 22 tho! not even at the halfway mark yet, so my opinion could def change or shift or worsen LOLLLL we shall seeee

(i’ve been very locked into @kim.dle_ and her detailed breakdowns. the dedication she has for reading both powerless AND the books supposedly inspiring the series to do a proper comparison 🙏)

been spiraling a lot this past week trying to figure out wtf is going on w me and why im the way i am LOL so there’s a reason jenna’s one of my biggest comfort characters.
