The Salkantay trek is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It was 100% worth it. The views are amazing and I learned exactly how resilient (or not so) I am. Starting with a hike to the highest elevation I’ve ever been, and barley making it to the top. Sleeping in cold conditions or with spiders bigger than I’ve ever seen. Realizing my limits, and respecting them to make it to the top the next day. Waking up before the sunrise, and hiking for hours upon hours. Starting the day getting rained on while trudging up the mountain, to burning hot sun on the way down. I was wet, cold, hot, sweaty, muddy, dirty, I hurt. My lungs couldn’t handle the elevation/altitude well and my muscles ached each day. My feet, legs, back, shoulders, and neck hurt, but we kept going. I would not do it again, but I’m so thankful and grateful that I had the opportunity and ability to do it once!
