Let me re-introduce myself.
My name is Sequoia.
Some of my employees call me Seq, Seqi, and Boss.
This is my favorite business jacket- I like old lady looking things. 👵🏻
I started a magazine out of high school, it grew into a publishing firm.
We publish a lot of names you might recognize, across eight imprints, in multiple genres 📚.
I’m an entrepreneur because I love to create, and build, but most of all I love the grind.
I’ve written some adventure books for fun, they have done pretty well, and that along with owning my own company, has allowed me to travel far and wide through my 20’s🗺 ✈️
I was fortunate to meet an epic partner in life, and married him right away.
We brought a farmhouse in Idaho.
Through covid my company started growing ... really fast 💨 #QuarantineReading
We brought an 8500sqft warehouse, now we control every aspect of the publishing process including distribution.
I’m a big believer in free, independent press🇺🇸
We had a 200% increase in revenue the last year and opened an e-commerce platform (screw amazon).
We have an amazing team, who all work insanely hard to continue building DAP (@diangelopublications). We’re all about Work/Life balance.
We work with incredible authors, all over the world, have had multiple bestsellers and published 25books this year.💥
I come from an adventurous family.
My dad and brother climbed together, some of the worlds greatest mountains 🏔.They were killed in an avalanche on the mountain K2.
My family’s love for adventure still runs in my veins.
Now-days I jump off shit for fun(bridges, mountains, buildings) it’s called BASE jumping. 🪂
Denali (my brother) was an incredible artist, who translated his love for the outdoors into his artwork. After he died, I started the Denali Foundation which sends art supplies out to schools, refugees and programs🎨.
We have a big fancy gala in NYC each year- first Thursday in November- that one night funds our programs all over the world💃
A lot of my time is spent voluntarily with the foundation.
“Wildly independent” “difficult” “headstrong” “chutzpah” “won’t take no for an answer”.... these are things I tend to be told. There’s truth in most of them 😉. by @sequoiaschmidt

Eight years has come and gone.
Feels like yesterday I got the call that an avalanche had hit your camp.

That same person who was on the other end of the phone those many years ago, told me just yesterday how proud you would both be of me today. Know that all the success and money in the world would be traded in a heartbeat to bring you both back— but that’s just not the way life works. And so each day, I simply do everything in my power to live a life full of the values you both instilled in me: fearless like my father, kind like my brother.
Dad raised us both, to follow our dreams whatever the cost may be.... and for the last eight years now, his spirit has been with me through all my adventures- from entrepreneurial with my company, to my passion for extreme sports.
Denali taught me to care. It sounds simple, but it is the single most valuable lesson I have learned, caring lead me to grow the foundation in his name, it taught me to value family and friends, and most of all caring taught me to fall in love.

Through their deaths, I have learned to be thankful. Thankful for the time we had together as a family. honored that I was born into such a remarkable family.

Know that not a day goes by without a thought of you both.

You were a strong and fierce soul who brought a whole new meaning to the word “powerful.” Thank you for honoring me with your mentorship and for the memories we shared, both publicly and privately. Thank you for the incredible memories 2024 🥂
For me, this was a year of growth; intellectually, emotionally, spiritually. Like with all growth, this year had a lot of pain, but also came with overwhelming gratitude, and joy. To my amazing classmates at Yale, thank you for sharing this once in a lifetime experience with me. From the long walks across campus each morning, to the intellectual stimulation in class, the wealth of knowledge and friendship gained - have grown within me, a deep appreciation for education.

After being born and raised in Napier, Sequoia set up her own publishing company in Texas at 16 and has written best-selling books.

In 2013, she tragically lost her dad and brother to an avalanche on K2 in Pakistan, and went on an epic adventure to find their remains.

We discuss how these events reshaped her life and led her to explore her fears and resilience.
