post full moon I'm bleeding & im here to share a song of loss & love

theres a sweet bundle of a few versions of this song on soundcloud that I had to include in the offerings: the first original take, a rough practice with the strings that'll be joining me this evening, and the final crisp single in all her glory. Link in bio 🌸

vocals & guitar by Me
cello by shannon sperling @shann.oooon
bass by rayla delanova @delanovamusic
recorded, engineered & produced by sarah mcnamara @sarah_once_was

sending love & protection to our socal communities as this song was recorded down south ♥ love letters to California embedded in everything we create on this land by @seraphimfairy

I came across this video performance from a show @dendrographia put on long ago, poetry as critical form. very grateful for that time.

Just putting this here as an act of remembering and steadily maintaining a relationship with my banjo. taking stock of all the work we've done together and what I want to continue to do. Not just as a sound but as a body I share ancestral roots with.

This is a song called The Trip We Took Over the Mountain 🎶 by Pete Seeger. It's an old Irish ballad and has been carried and sung through Appalachia as well. taken in Diego Rivera Gallery by @seraphimfairy

from ocean siren to the swamp im really grateful to have arrived in nola for this festival @blackamericanafest

thinking a lot of about the powers of the waters, the ocean, yemoja, la sirene, and the ways in which our ancestors carried traditions like the banjo across the Atlantic. how protective, & healing these water spirits can be, like a mother like a womb. how they've helped us carry and recover treasures and gifts from the remnants and wreckage of whats been stolen & suppressed. an ancestral tool of channeling, roots, & spirit and joy. i love to hold mine in her softest essence~

the water remembers, asè

Im excited to share some songs with my cohort @deidrahallmusic @black.banjo.reclamation @cyber_mighty a song round and discussion, at 8:25 pm at the Charlie Pride Stage. Ill be covering a version of Odetta's 'lowlands' and old folk song she contorts to speak on the labor + unequal pay of black fishermen. the call back from sea to land
& my first banjo song, suisun city. stranded at the delta bay and taken in by locals
+ another ocean song written at this shore here before summer's end

And we will be on the radio tmr (sunday) at 10:30 am CST! (8:30am for west coast folks) WWOZ radio 90.7 fm www.wwoz.org
