Is homeopathy the only true holistic modality that can facilitate deep healing?

Healing is about mending separation. Whether it be nudging the body out of an inflammatory state because it’s reacting to a safe substance but interpreting it as harmful, or, mending the incongruency of a body that believes its in a constant state of crisis, in any healing modality, we are supporting the re-membering of a body toward safety and harmony.

The thing is, harmony is not static. health is about flexibility. We don’t always want our nervous systems calm, just as we don’t always want our nervous system in a state of hypervigilence. Health is defined by a quality of freedom. The freedom to be flexible, adapt, recover, rest, feel joy, excitability, and once again, rest. Flexibility is resiliency. Resiliency doesn’t mean being armoured.

Both herbs and homeopathic medicines support the body to remember how to be flexible, adaptable, rest, recover, remember joy, and then come back to rest once again. This is because they speak to the body, and help it remember how to heal. The healers role is to faciliate this conversation between the nature of plants, and the nature of the human being.

The word “equinox” is derived from the Latin meaning, “equal night”. This is a time of balance between dark and light, yet, it can highlight where you are feeling a lack of balance. As you are pulled to prepare for the darker months ahead you may feel unbalanced, confused and uncertain.

You may feel pulled in two directions because it isn’t only a time of plants dying back, it’s also a time of harvest, abundance, and a ‘second spring’.

Fruit like the rosehips and hawthorn are ripening, the hardy roses are blooming still, and the winter vegetables are swelling with nutrients as they fatten for the cold months ahead.

The Calendula, Nettle, and Motherwort are ready for their second harvest.
At this time of year, nature is showing us the power of letting go.

That new life blooms as we release the leaves, flowers and seeds of yesterday. Lay them on the earth, to compost and fertilize the soil of what we are building.
This time of descent invites you to turn inward as you reflect on bounty. This is a time to contemplate and digest what was so you can embody what is to come.

This is the season to bathe your cells in nutrients, eat as many colourful fruits and vegetables (locally sourced ideally, from farms) to move into the next season well nourished.

Make your elderberry syrup, get as much sun as you can even on overcast days as this is still good for your endocrine system.

If the lack of light and increased cold causes you to feel sad and anxious, consider the homeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum (made from salt) to help this transition. One dose a day for just 5 days. Then pause, and perhaps take it once or twice a month only.
There are so many natural medicines from the Earth to support us in transitions.

Happy Equinox,
Seraphina

“Plants initiate us, and they help us evolve and become more of who we’re meant to be.”

In this months’s episode of The Herballectual, I sit down with my dear friend Seraphina Capranos for a conversation about the parts of herbalism that have too often been kept apart: the clinical and the mystical, herbalism and homeopathy, the material and the unseen.

We speak about the pressure herbalists can feel to edit the more mystical dimensions of their work, the seduction of certainty, plant spirit medicine, subtle medicine, and what it means to remain open without abandoning rigour.

Seraphina is a bridge walker, moving between paradigms that herbalism too often treats as opposites, and this conversation explores what becomes possible when they are brought back into relationship.

Episode 5 of The Herballectual is now live.

Did you know there is a homeopathic remedy made from the moon?

It’s for those whose symptoms wax and wane with the full moon, their circadian rhythm may feel off, and emotionally feel as if drowning in water.

Their hormones might feel all over the place, experience severe PMS and even PMDD, and sometimes describe themselves as so sensitive to other people’s emotions they can feel what others are feeling, and so retreat in solitude to get relief.

Physically, they may experience bloating, water retention, headaches worse from light, and sensitivity to noise.

They may have an uncanny sense of past lives, be highly intuitive, and have one foot in this world, and another foot in the Otherworld.

We call these remedies ‘imponderables’.

Homeopathic medicines made from non-physical forms, instead, their rays or frequencies are potentized.

We have homeopathic medicines made from the Sun, Moon, x-ray radiation and even magnetic poles.

While these remedies are controversial even amongst homeopaths (even I was skeptical for the first decade of my practice) there is now no doubt in my mind they are helpful.

The thing that’s important to know is they must be well indicated in order to work. The symptoms described above can match many plant and mineral remedies too. But, Luna is for those uniquely sensitive individuals who have a deep sensitivity to the moon’s light, and a profound sense of the layers of life itself.

As tempting as it might be, please don’t try to prescribe this for yourself. There are countless remedies that can match this picture. Homeopathic Luna is best prescribed to you by a qualified homeopath who can track what lies beneath. Homeopathy is an art. A homeopath goes to school for 4 years in order to be able to track the hidden layers of what gives rise to a person’s state of being.
The essence.

It’s this level of depth that leads to the correct deep-acting remedy.
Homeopathy is modern-day alchemy. It is the profound practice of how medicine mirrors us in nature. And this remedy is just one example of this magic.

Blessed Full Moon,

This lunar eclipse may have you feeling more emotional and wobbly, as if you’re walking around in a haze of uncertainty.

This is because we are in a portal for releasing and resetting. This doesn’t mean you need to do any releasing or resetting as it’s already happening; nature is leading the way. There’s nothing to push my friends.

In addition to this eclipse, we are in a season of transition moving from late summer into fall. You can feel the shift in the air. The changing light. The shorter days.

The cosmic intelligences at play are greater than any one individual, so in this time of celestial power the wisest thing we can do is surrender, and let nature lead. Let your bones soften. Track your tendency to control, and bring ease to the parts that might feel afraid of surrender.

Our intuition and inner knowing is nature speaking through us. What does your inner wisdom have to say?

This is a good time to meditate, sit in stillness, daydream, sleep more, journal, and lean into the wisdom of oracular tools. One of my favourite divination tools is sitting with plants. Make a cup of tea, and sit in silence while in ceremony, and listen. Let the wisdom of the plant move through you, and ask them questions. There’s nothing to push. They will answer. I promise.

An eclipse has a very real physical impact on your body because we are made of the same ingredients as the sun, moon, and stars.

You too, are connected to cosmic intelligence. You may have sleep disruptions this week, vivid dreams, or feel more exhausted with lower energy than usual. Do your best to avoid fighting this, and instead take good care of yourself. Eat colourful foods that are nourishing and grounding.

Herbs to support this pisces full moon eclipse are Crampbark, Wood Betony and Valerian Root. These help ease rigidity, tension, and control tendencies. They also help restore sleep cycles. Trust this eclipse is releasing what is necessary and making room for what is next.

Love in changing times,
