Exploring how we unwind, sleep and recover and what that makes possible.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
You slept eight hours. So why does getting up feel like this? 😵‍💫

Start with one question: does it lift? Fogginess after waking is common and usually clears. Tiredness that stays all day is worth a closer look, starting with how much of your night was actually sleep.

If you're tired most days for a few weeks without a clear reason, speak to your GP.

Foggy for an hour, or tired all day? Tell us below 👇

Exhausted all day, then wide awake the moment your head hits the pillow? 🌙

Being tired and being sleepy aren’t the same thing. Tired means depleted. Sleepy means you’re actually likely to fall asleep. You can have one without the other.

A few things can keep you wired: caffeine later in the day, bright evening light (which can interfere with melatonin), and worry, including worry about sleep itself. Watching the clock tends to make it worse.

If you’re sleepy on the sofa but alert in bed, your bed may have become a cue to stay awake. One thing worth trying: if you can’t sleep, get up, do something quiet, and go back when you feel sleepy.

The laptop’s closed. So why are you still rewriting that email? 💭

Switching off after work has a name: psychological detachment. And unfinished work makes it harder. Across 1,100+ work goals, the unfinished ones were harder to leave at work, especially the ones that mattered.

The usual advice is “make a plan for tomorrow”. Planning helped some people switch off, but a later study found no overall improvement. Less tidy than the advice.

What might help depends on what’s keeping it open:
01 Next step unclear? Leave a note you can actually use.
02 Still on call? Ask: do you need this tonight, or is tomorrow fine?
03 Too much to do? Make the trade-off explicit.

And when it keeps coming back, ask one thing: what is still unresolved here?

What follows you home after work? Tell us in the comments 👇

One more episode. Ten more minutes. Just a bit longer. 🌙

Bedtime procrastination means going to bed later than you intended, when nothing external is keeping you up. It’s linked with getting less sleep.

Revenge bedtime procrastination describes a familiar reason for that delay: wanting some time to yourself before the day ends. When the day belongs to work, chores and everyone else, late night can feel like the only time that’s yours.

One study found three common reasons we stay up:
01 Deliberate: “I’ve earned it”
02 Mindless: “I lost track”
03 Strategic: “I’d only lie awake”

So instead of “put your phone down”, try a better question: did you get any time to yourself today?

Deliberate, mindless or strategic: which one are you? Tell us below 👇

One more episode. Ten more minutes. Just a bit longer.

Staying up later than you meant to, with nothing actually keeping you up, has a name: bedtime procrastination. It's linked with less sleep, but it isn't simply a willpower problem.

One study found people's reasons tend to fall into three camps:
🪑 Deliberate: "I've earned this time."
💡 Mindless: "I lost track."
🛏️ Strategic: "I'd only lie awake anyway."

So instead of "put your phone down," try a better question: did you get any time to yourself today?

Which one are you: deliberate, mindless or strategic? Tell us below 👇
