🔪 the final girl support group review

All right, everyone buckle up. I absolutely love the other novels that I’ve read by Grady Hendrix. How to sell a haunted house, my best friend‘s exorcism- I could not put those down. This one though, I’m surprised I read it in 11 days and not three months.

Based off the little blurb on the back, the title, and the cover, I went into this expecting something that the actual plot did not give me. I am a big fan of slasher movies so I was so excited to read this book, but it left me needing so much more.

I think it was still decent and the writing was all right, but I was expecting, you know, a slasher. Not that I read it, but I could’ve skipped it.

THE ISLAND REVIEW 🏝️🎢

Usually Ms. Preston don’t do me wrong, but maaaaaan this one was hard to get through.

The whole premise is that a billionaire man has built a goth-amusement park-island-creepy town and has invited TEEN influencers to come a review it. (Yes without their parents of course!) Then, they start dying one by one! Naturally!

It is just way too long; it should’ve been like 20 pages. It was just the same scene with different circumstances probably 17 times in a row.

I always try to grab Natasha Preston books if I’m out and about, but I’m so serious this one was just awful. 😅 anyways, I’ll prob still read her other books lol. by @serenebookshelf

Just a little trip to half price books for your feed!

Somehow I made it in and out without buying anything. :3 something must have been wrong with me. HOWEVER, I did enable my friend into buying Call Me Buy Your Name, so maybe I bought a book by proxy???? Idk if that’s how that works lol

But I love bringing stuff to HPB and getting some spending money back! by @serenebookshelf

Tonight I had the ABSOLUTE PLEASURE of being invited by my dear friend, Bethany, to go with her to Rachel Gillig’s author event for THE KNAVE AND THE MOON.

Rachel Gillig is a hilarious, charismatic, wonderful mind that kept my undivided attention the entire time.

I laughed A LOT. Rachel Gillig is actually Bartholomew, and I will die on this hill.

I CANNOT WAIT to start reading The Knave and the Moon, but also at the same time I am not ready at all to say goodbye to the Stonewater Duology :/

Guess I will just have to read Gillig’s other duology when I’m done!

Thank you to the @novelneighbor for a wonderful event!! by @serenebookshelf

I am too stunned to speak.

This book was just what I needed in a soon-to-be-fall read. It was epic, fantastic, and an adventure from beginning to end. I loved the main character, the love interest was perfect, and the little gargoyle I think is my favorite book character of all time! 🦇

The ending left me absolutely distraught; I will not be able to function for the next 2-3 business days. I literally was gasping in real life.

Shoutout to my dear friend, Bethany, for telling me to read this! I’ve finished it just in time for the second book to come out TOMORROW! by @serenebookshelf

With the news of Tim Curry’s passing, I wanted to highlight how beautiful his memoir is.

I read it in July, and it will forever be one of my favorites. He tells a sincere story about the intensity of his life, while keeping it respectful, tasteful, yet still entertaining.

I learned so much about him and his work, that I am a forever fan.

Oops I took a long posting break!

I’m sort of back! I’m not going to post as much as I was (probably, maybe????)

But I’m not reading enough, so I want to get back on here so that I read more!

Since I’ve been gone so long, pllleeeaassseeee comment come book recommendations. I need some new good books. Can be thrillers, romance, fantasy, non fiction, literally anything.

🏠 Mason Falls Mysteries: The House 🏠

This book I chose off of Libby cause I desperately needed a palate cleanser. I was coming off of Under the Dome & Haunting on the Hill, so I was looking for something short and simple. This definitely did the trick. It is middle school level reading, so it was easy to digest. I didn’t share my palate cleansers last year, but I want to track my reading more on here with you guys so here it is ! by @serenebookshelf

⛰️ HAUNTING ON THE HILL BOOK REVIEW ⛰️

This is my second “reimagined” book of the year, and I am starting to think this is not the genre for me.

Long story short, I love The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Love the movie with Liam Neeson, love the show adaptation on Netflix. But this one was not for me. I think I just didn’t like the characters??

The main character, Holly, is a hobbyist playwright and has received a grant to work on her most recent piece. She spends this money on renting a mysterious old house for a couple of weeks to hunker down and work on the play. Holly’s girlfriend, Nisa, comes along, and she is also writing music for the play ‘cause she loves to sing. Like, loves to sing. REALLY LOVES TO SING. HAVE I MENTIONED THAT NISA LOVES TO SING? ((it is so annoying in the book lol)) Holly’s friend, Stevie, and an actress, Amanda, come with them too. Haunted stuff happens in, like, the last 10% of the book.

It was fine, some parts were spooky, but it wasn’t enough for me. I was never scared, and I think the plot fell flat for me. The description says they all fight their own ghosts, yada yada, but no character development happens imo.

I will try the re-imagine genre ONE MORE TIME, but if I don’t vibe with this one either, I think I will be done with them. by @serenebookshelf
