It’s one of the questions we often hear from travellers planning a trip to Peru. And there’s something worth knowing.

Machu Picchu sits at approximately 7,970 feet, almost 3,000 feet lower than Cusco!

When your fabulous visitor from Arizona requests Thai food for dinner, you deliver! 😄🇹🇭

Another busy evening at the House of SJ kitchen in Indianapolis! On the menu: Thai pork larb, chicken red curry, and a refreshing pomelo salad. Spicy, fragrant, full of fresh herbs and bold Thai flavours. Happy guests, clean plates, and one very pleased cook. 😂

Dare I say, some of the best Thai food in Indy? LOL!

One thing I absolutely love about living in Indianapolis is Saraga International Grocery. What a treasure for anyone who loves cooking! Aisles of ingredients from around the world, and a fresh produce section that makes me ridiculously happy. Thai basil, chillies, herbs, Asian greens… almost everything I need to recreate the food I love from my travels.

Good food, great company, and another wonderful evening around our table.

Indianapolis, this was a rare find. 🇮🇩❤️

Second visit to @wisanggeni_pawon for lunch, and I’m already thinking about what to order next.

We had the Bebek Madura, a Madurese-style duck from East Java with seasoned toasted coconut, rice and sambal. Rich, savoury, deeply spiced and absolutely delicious.

Then came the beef rendang, slow-cooked in coconut milk and spices until the beef was tender and the sauce turned dark, intense and packed with flavour.

What I love most is that the food feels true to itself. Nothing watered down. Nothing trying too hard. Just regional Indonesian cooking with real care behind it.

Huge congratulations to chefs and co-owners Bambang Wisanggeni and Pratiwi Wisanggeni. What you’ve created feels personal, warm and genuinely special.

And please… stay exactly like this. Don’t get too big, don’t get too polished, and don’t lose that little secret feeling. 😂

If you’re looking for Indonesian food in Indianapolis, this is absolutely one to know.

Already looking forward to the next plate. ❤️

Have you been to the @museolarco in Lima, Peru?

A late post from the House of SJ, where the kitchen smells like food all day and somehow all night too. 😂

Table for four, built around one very happy theme: duck.

Roasted half duck, arugula and pear salad, crispy smashed potatoes, and glazed carrots.

Clean plates all around. Everyone well fed. Conversation continued. Wine may have been involved, and the evening carried on exactly as it should.

Last night’s dinner: sausage penne alla vodka. 🍝

Fresh penne from @corridorindy , the Mediterranean restaurant and artisanal market by chefs @erinkem and @chefpapalogan .

We brought it home, added sausage, a very generous hit of roasted chilli flakes, and turned it into one deeply satisfying bowl of comfort.

Creamy, spicy, rich, and absolutely bloody delicious. 😋

Fresh pasta really does make a difference.

Today’s nature therapy: the Monon Trail toward Carmel. 🌿

We managed about 15,000 steps before I got distracted by the woods and water, which honestly was the better plan.

Spotted turtles, a great blue heron, a bittern, and a beautiful wood duck.

Then we reached the Carmel side, where even the trail gets an upgrade. Proper restrooms, water fountains, rest stops… Carmel said, if you’re going to exercise, at least suffer comfortably. 😂

Such a beautiful stretch. Green, peaceful, and full of little Indiana surprises.

A monarch butterfly stopped in our Indianapolis garden today—and suddenly, our lantanas felt like part of something much bigger. 🦋🌸

September is monarch migration season in Indiana. These tiny travelers are heading south from the northern United States and Canada toward the mountain forests of central Mexico—a remarkable journey that can stretch nearly 3,000 miles.

Along the way, gardens like ours become little rest stops: a sip of nectar, a moment in the sunshine, and then back into the air.

The monarchs making this fall migration are especially remarkable. They can live for months—long enough to complete the journey south and spend the winter in Mexico.

We’ll never know where this little visitor began or how many miles still lie ahead. But for a few minutes, our garden became part of its journey—and those lantanas now mean a little more to us. 💛
