essaouira (aṣ-ṣawīra), formerly known mogador (during portugese colonisation) is a coastal city near the atlantic ocean in morocco. i always say it's a city with a personality, and to be honest i think the one key element that creates this is the tradition of connection. throughout history; jewish families built synagogues in the heart of the medina, amazigh communities brought their oral traditions & poetry, arabs shaped the architectural and spiritual essence of the city and the europeans left their forts and bastion to the city. essaouira is a city with a rich history of diversity, a place where people from different cultures lived and interacted together. today, when walking through the medina you still sense all the warmth and energy. it's truly an unmatched city with a lovely personality if you ask me! northern renaissance paintings are very interesting, especially considering the way the different ways the renaissance developed through different regions in europe. where the southern (italy, greece etc.) part of europe was focused on the regeneration of the classical age, the northern (low lands) part was focused on spiritual morality & a regeneration of christianity. the reformation and counter-reformation had a significant influence on the way art evolved in this region. however, in all of europe the effect of humanism were noticeable, each in their own idiosyncratic ways. the cultural interplay & influence between these two different regional developments is also an interesting phenomenon in art history, which is later seen in the baroque period. renaissance art is truly fascinating. by @serenitique

in braga, i saw so many catholic churches and medieval christian art, which was fascinating because catholic church art is always packed with theological symbolism. my historical understanding of catholic art is broad yet limited, but i love seeking opportunities to deepen my knowledge and interpret its meaning. since braga is considered the religious capital of portugal, it was heartwarming to see not just the abundance of churches but also how alive the religious communities are. exploring the historical and religious layers of one of portugal’s oldest cities was truly a lovely experience. taken in Braga, Portugal by @serenitique
