POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The other night, sometime between dreaming and waking, I slipped off the diamond tennis bracelet I always wear — my mother’s bracelet. She gave it to me years ago, long before she passed away. I’ve worn it almost daily since. It’s sentiment and status, grief and glamour, all clasped together.

But that night, something in me wanted it gone. I rolled it off my wrist the way you brush away something that no longer belongs, and placed it gently on the windowsill beside my bed.

The next morning, I did something I never do. I took off my diamond earrings — the ones my father gave my mother when I was born — and the tiny baby diamonds in my second piercings. One by one, I unfastened every trace of sparkle I’ve carried for decades.

Later that weekend, I noticed how much of my jewelry still carried the stories of who I used to be — the pinky ring from heartbreak, the pearl that replaced something I couldn’t keep, the luxury watch that became a symbol of self-reliance.

And it hit me: I’ve been styling myself in sorrow.

Even after all the work I’ve done to release and refine — to detox, edit, and align — there were still layers quietly asking to be shed.

So I took it all off. Not out of loss, but as an act of grace. My body — wiser than my mind — wanted a pause, a breath, a new way to hold beauty.

Maybe that’s where you are too.
You’ve done the clearing. You’ve redefined yourself once. But you can feel another evolution calling — something subtler, freer, more you now.

If your wardrobe (or your energy) is tugging at you to come into a new relationship with it, maybe it’s time for a revisit. A season of refining, re-embodying, and re-claiming.

I’d love to help you meet this next version of yourself — gently, intentionally, beautifully.

Last night my son said something to me that I don’t think I’ll forget.

He said, “Mami, I don’t want you to think this is as good as it’s going to get.”

Then he spent the next few minutes reminding me of everything he sees in me—things that are often harder to see from the inside.

I know what he was responding to wasn’t one moment or one opportunity. It was the quiet accumulation of showing up. Continuing after loss. Continuing after disappointment. Continuing when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed.

Sometimes the people who love us notice the change before we do.

And maybe they’re right.

When you say, “I will buy clothes after I lose weight,” the message can become far more personal: “I am not worth feeling confident right now.”

Guest @seriousstyle_mia challenges that belief with a practical, compassionate reminder. You do not need an expensive wardrobe or a perfect body to choose clothing that fits well and helps you feel prepared for the life you live today.

A thoughtful closet can strengthen self-esteem, sharpen your professional presence and remind you that you deserve to take up space with confidence.

More than half of patients in a national study said physician attire shapes their perception of care. That is not a shallow judgment. It reflects the powerful role that professional presence can play in trust, confidence and communication.

In this clip, @meredithhirsh asks why healthcare still dismisses appearance as frivolous. Patients notice how physicians show up, and a thoughtful professional image can signal preparation, respect and reassurance before the conversation even begins.

Listen to the full episode with @seriousstyle_mia for a deeper discussion about physician style, authority and the patient experience.

What makes someone magnetic on camera?

It’s not about memorizing the perfect answer or becoming a different version of yourself. It’s learning how to access the ease, authenticity and charisma that are already there, even when the camera turns on.

I’m thrilled to be partnering with Wander PR to offer one-on-one media training as part of PodReady.

In a focused session with me, we’ll work on your message, your presence and how you communicate your expertise so you can feel more natural, confident and connected on camera.

And these skills go far beyond podcasts. They show up in your own content, interviews, sales conversations, speaking opportunities and anywhere you need to communicate who you are and what you do.

You don’t need to become someone else on camera. You need to become more comfortable being yourself.

Ready to get PodReady? Click the link in bio to book your media training session with me.

For guest @seriousstyle_mia, personal style starts with dignity, not a department store rack.

As a Cuban American who was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, she remembers a family tradition that refused to settle for clothing that did not fit. Her family visited a seamstress each week because they saw well-fitting clothes as a sign of pride, care and self-respect.

That lesson still carries weight in healthcare leadership. How we show up can shape how we feel, how we lead and how confidently we walk into the room.

A lab coat does not create authority. Confidence, clarity and decisive leadership do.

In this clip, guest @seriousstyle_mia challenges the narrow idea that women in healthcare must dress or act a certain way to earn respect. Whether a physician, nurse or practice leader leads the room, patients need to know who can make decisions, answer questions and guide care.

For women in healthcare, claiming authority is not vanity or performance. It is an act of service that builds trust, calms uncertainty and helps patients feel safe.

Apparently, when you haven’t had a day off in a month, the cracks eventually start to show.

Mine, naturally, showed up in the wardrobe.

I walked out of the house wearing the exact same shoe in two different colors and did not notice.

As a personal stylist, I’d like to remind everyone that expertise and exhaustion can, in fact, coexist.

The good news? The outfit still worked.

The better news? I’m choosing to call this an advanced styling technique and moving on.

NEW EPISODE TOMORROW! Learn how your wardrobe can shape your confidence, communicate your authority and strengthen the way you show up at work, on camera and in everyday life.

In this vibrant episode of Working Healthcare, host Meredith Hirsh sits down with Paola Arencibia, personal stylist and founder of Serious Style Inc., for a candid conversation about clothing, self-esteem and executive presence. Paola explains why style reaches far beyond fashion trends: every outfit sends a message to the world, but it first speaks to the person wearing it.

Paola shares how she moved from teaching literature and creative writing to reading closets as emotional archives. Behind unworn dresses, tight jeans and inherited pieces, she often finds stories about identity, body image, ambition and major life changes. Her approach helps clients clear the visual noise and choose clothing that supports who they are now—not who they once were or who they think they should become.

The episode explores style archetypes, personal branding, confidence and the subtle power of color, proportion and posture. Paola also addresses an important challenge for women in healthcare: how to project credibility and authority without shrinking, camouflaging or apologizing for success. From white lab coats to Zoom meetings, she explains how intentional clothing can help professionals feel grounded, visible and ready to lead.

Paola closes with a simple closet audit: remove clothing that criticizes your body, try on pieces that still carry price tags and decide whether gifted items truly serve you.

Listen in for an empowering conversation about dressing with intention, claiming your presence and becoming the CEO of your wardrobe.
