I was only 7 when I first heard the phrase, "Tay, kayo na pong bahala sa mga anak ko," as my estranged father carefully descended the stairs, making sure not to wake us. It was dawn, and Tatay responded with a nod. From that moment on, Tatay shouldered the responsibility of being a father to three really persistent kids. Persistent as in makulit😂.

He is one of the most creative and compassionate individuals I have ever known, and I have always admired and looked up to him. As time passed, I observed the ash coal of hair dyed in jet black, and the slow crumpling of his skin. It made me realize the importance of capturing moments with those deeply connected to me—people who have played a vital role in shaping who I am today.

Witnessing the tangible changes in Tatay prompted me to recognize the fleeting nature of time and how important it is to trap these moments in a photograph— something that transcends our time and giving him a portrait is the least that I could do.

Always been grateful to our Tatay. by @serkodak

My Granny and Mom used to talk in a language that sounded distant yet familiar — their mother tongue, Cebuano. I could never fully grasp it, and growing up in the Metro didn’t help.

Last May, I had the privilege of visiting their hometown, Cebu, to celebrate Mami Bren’s milestone (all thanks to ate @elimanson l). I met a lot of relatives — and when I say “a lot,” I mean a whole town’s worth(anyone you walk past by could be your relative 😭😂). I also got to meet new friends and artists — all incredibly creative, embracing, and perceptive.

For a brief moment, it felt warm.
Hearing Bisaya for a whole ass week left me on emotional auto-pilot.
Maybe, just maybe, wonderful things are meant to be short-lived —so make a habit of creating them. taken in Compostela, Cebu by @serkodak

It was January 31st when Mom sent me a message asking us to prepare a room and food for Tito Jr., as he would be staying the night after receiving recognition from the school where he teaches. He lives in Talisay, Cebu, my mother’s hometown.

That was the first time I met Tito Jr., and as he introduced himself, I learned that he is one of my mom’s closest cousins. He teaches mechanical drafting and Citizenship Advancement Training, more commonly known as CAT.

After hours of discussing our very confusing family tree 🤣 and his wonderful career as a professor, it suddenly occurred to me that I had never actually asked about the purpose of his recognition. When I did, he told me that he had recently earned his Doctorate in Public Administration. I was shocked and excitedly suggested that we take portraits, as I felt this was a huge milestone for him. And so, we did. by @serkodak

The first time I saw Tatay's office was when I needed a document from him — one of our course requirement. His workplace is utterly filled with papers as he is stationed in the records department in Bureau of internal revenue at Intramuros. I was overwhelmed with the number of papers that I saw that day and at the same time having this feeling of amazement. Knowing tatay for more than 2 decades, this was the first time that I saw his workplace. by @serkodak

She brings a lot of joy, hope, and forgiveness into this world. That's just who she is.

I've always contemplated life every time I see Mama Lola. It sparks something inside me that poses the question "what's the purpose of existence?" Probably because of her snow-white hair? Or is it because of how she endured time? How she navigated life despite the adversaries she encountered?

It is a daily struggle and impasse; I still have the same question in mind, and it lingers over my shoulder. Every time I start having answers to that single question, it evolves; it is never constant.

Now it seems like I'll never really have the answer to that question—maybe not now, but who knows? Maybe I'll get it by tomorrow. by @serkodak

It's 3 pm, you're in your Tita and Tito's home. You walk around out of boredom and you stumbled upon their cute photos at Baguio. 😂🥰

We're currently completing 600 hours of duty in our internship and we won't be going anywhere for a while. Still, I'm happy that we're in a work environment that we both enjoy. taken in Diplomat Hotel Baguio City by @serkodak

I've always been fond of people whose age comes with wisdom. These are photos of Mommy Nora and Lolo Digs, grandparents of Nicole. They are the ones who welcomed us in their sweet-warm home at Baguio.

Another core memory for me.🌻 by @serkodak

I thought poetry is the use of grandeur, it's quite the opposite as I explore the things that interests me. It is being intentional, knowing what you want and the filtration of thoughts that burdens you.

Si tatay, minsan tubero, minsan karpintero, madalas cook, minsan electrician, minsan naman barbero hahaha. Not exaggerating pero he could probably do anything 😂. by @serkodak
