“If servitude is before you, leadership is beyond you.”
True leadership begins with humility. You cannot effectively lead people you are unwilling to serve. Jesus demonstrated this perfectly in Philippians 2: He did not grasp at His position, but humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient even to the point of death.
Leadership is not about standing above people; it is about being willing to stand with them, suffer with them, and sacrifice for them.
There is a powerful story of Alexander the Great crossing the desert with his army. When a small supply of water was brought to him, Alexander refused to drink because there was not enough for his men. Instead, he poured the precious water into the sand in full view of his army. The water was gone, but the message was priceless: “If you suffer, I suffer. If you endure, I endure. I will never ask you to bear something I am unwilling to bear myself.” His men were so encouraged by the gesture that it was as though they had all drunk the water themselves.
That’s the power of leadership through example.
Your influence gains weight when your actions validate your words. Character carries more volume than a microphone ever could. People may forget what you told them, but they remember what you demonstrated.
If you preach discipline, live disciplined. If you preach sacrifice, sacrifice. If you preach humility, serve. If you ask others to endure, be willing to endure beside them.
Don’t just talk it; walk it. Don’t just walk it; breathe it.
Because the greatest leaders aren’t followed because of the title they carry, but because of the character they consistently embody.
