Simulated engine failure during training. Practicing scenarios like this builds the habits and decision-making skills needed to respond methodically under pressure. In aviation, preparation matters long before an emergency ever happens.

The student in this case reacted well given that he is fairly new to aviation.

Sometimes the safest decision is changing the plan. ✈️

An aircraft entered the runway while we were on short final, so we went around. No drama, no forcing the landing just recognize the conflict and make the safe call. Fly safe !

Steep turns are an outside visual reference maneuver consisting of two 360° turns.

Per the ACS standards, the pilot must maintain:
• ±100’ altitude
• ±10° heading
• coordinated flight throughout the maneuver

Looks simple from the outside, but precision and smooth control inputs matter a lot here. Trim is your friend for this maneuver!

Glass cockpits are great, but…

If the only way you’re able to know where you are is by looking at the MFD, you’re missing one of the most fundamental navigation skills in aviation.

My student was able to find all of his VFR checkpoints using pilotage alone and I couldn’t be more proud. #flighttraining #aviation #pilot by @sethmarksouth

Close call with a Citation jet during a training flight.

At non-towered airports, jets will often wait to pick up their IFR clearance on a separate frequency before departure. In this case, the Citation crew never heard our initial call that we were established on final.

As they started taxiing onto the runway, I immediately advised we were short final (they did not cross the hold short line). Had they continued, we would have executed an immediate go-around and avoided the conflict entirely.

This is exactly why clear communication and constant situational awareness matter so much in aviation.

Practicing maintaining a sterile cockpit with my commercial student. Sometimes the safest thing to do is tell your instructor to be quiet.

This is done in a respectful way by saying “sterile cockpit”, this implies that all attention and focus should be solely on essential things pertaining to the flight.
