A slow Monday, finally🍂📖

After two incredibly busy weeks of traveling, working, hosting, and everything in between, I’m finally enjoying a little quiet time.

A cozy fireplace, Bailey by my side, and the pleasure of losing myself in Winter Time by the wonderful Sevan Minaskanyan @sevantime

Sometimes, the simplest moments are the most precious✨❤️

New BOOK RELEASE‼️‼️#WINTERTIME #sevanminaskanian #YA #romance #williamandvictoria by @sevantime

Sevan Minaskanian gave two of her characters the personalities of her own children. Not as a writing exercise. Because those were the people she knew most completely, and fiction needed that kind of truth in it.

Every author puts something of themselves into the work. The best ones put in the people they love.

If you wrote a book, whose personality would you bring into it?

"What about the bridge, the one you were standing on, crying? Write your book."

Sevan made a deal with herself: no writing until her father came to her in a dream. A year passed with nothing. When he finally appeared, he did not offer vague comfort. He named the exact bridge. A memory only he could have known.

What is one thing you are waiting for a sign to finally start?

"I stood there for two hours. And then I heard my dad."

Sevan Minaskanian was on a bridge she loved, trees on both sides, the river below. Her body went hot despite the freezing cold. She did not understand why.

It was not a memory. It was a voice. And her dad had already passed away.

Has a place ever made you feel unmistakably close to someone you have lost?

"I want them to read this book and see there is a way out. You do not have to take it."

Sevan Minaskanian was bullied starting in junior high and did not have a way out. In her own words: "I just shut my mouth and took it."

So in Wintertime, she gave her character the ending she never got.

What is one thing you wish someone had told you it was okay to walk away from?

"Bullying is easy. A dumb person can do it. Being nice is the hard part."

Sevan Minaskanian was bullied badly enough that a teacher once pulled her aside and said: "I give you the right. If she touches you, punch her."

Cruelty takes nothing. Kindness takes intention. She never forgot the difference.

What is one moment you wish you had stood up for yourself sooner?
