Had a question about how I square things on a machine in virtually no time, no video but a series of pictures showing the process and setup. This is a reference square about 1 meter by 1 meter, it’s square to itself by about +6 microns. The machine is a SNK HF-5M, about 6.5 meters on the X, 1.7 meters on the W, 1 meter on the Z, and 4.7 on the Y. The W is an additional vertical axis on the bridge columns, while the Z is on the spindle ram.

Fastest method I've found for squaring a vise, can usually do it in about a minute. Didnt take the whole process, but this is the result and it goes like this, take 2 indicators, one on the table, and one on the spindle, zero them together on one side of vise, jog the machine to the other end of the vise, bump the vise around until they read the same, they both dont need to be zero, just the same and it will be square. This also works for setting up multiple vises quickly. Same deal except on the second vise you transfer the zero from the previous vise via the spindle indicator, then after you have it zeroed, you then zero the table indicator on the second vise and traverse the second vise and bump it around until they are the same zero again. You can also rough in a second vise by having the table well oiled and using a long piece of stock or a long parallel, after the first vise is clamped to the table, and you tighten the vise, the second vise will float around and get you in the ballpark as you tighten it. #instamachinist #machinist #mill #toolbuilder #cnc #bridgeport by @sevebertolone
