Hoy, 30 de septiembre, se cumplen 42 años de una de las grandes victorias de Seve Ballesteros.

Tal día como hoy, en 1984, Seve conquistaba el Suntory World Match Play en Wentworth, un torneo de enorme prestigio que reunía a algunos de los mejores jugadores del mundo en un formato de enfrentamientos directos.

Y Seve lo hizo suyo.

Levantó el trofeo en 1984 y, un año después, el 29 de septiembre de 1985, volvía a hacerlo.

Aquellas fueron dos de las cinco victorias que Seve consiguió en el World Match Play.

En Santa Marina, su legado sigue presente.

When Seve won the Irish Open in 1983 at the Royal Dublin Golf Club, he did it wearing one of those effortlessly distinctive looks that became part of his legacy — a red polo with a chest pocket.

The Dublin Pocket Polo takes its inspiration from that moment. A modern interpretation of a Seve original, created to carry a piece of golf history into a new generation.

Today, on the final day of the Omega European Masters, we return to the exact place where it happened.
18th hole. Crans-Montana. 5 September 1993.

With his drive buried among the trees and an eight-foot wall between him and the green, the sensible option was to play sideways.

Seve saw something else.
A gap. A shot. A way forward.

He took it — producing the recovery that became known as Seve’s Miracle Shot, before chipping in for birdie.

More than three decades later, a plaque still marks the spot.
On a course that carries his name, and on the final day of a tournament he won three times, we recreate one of the shots that defined Seve.

The place where one of golf’s greatest escapes happened.

On the 18th hole at Crans-sur-Sierre in 1993, Seve Ballesteros needed birdie to keep his hopes alive.
His drive finished just five feet from an eight-foot wall, with a swimming pool and the green beyond. While caddie Billy Foster urged him to chip out sideways, Seve saw another way.

He opened the face of his sand wedge and sent the ball almost vertically over the wall, beneath the branches and to the edge of the green — before chipping in for birdie.

Foster later called it “the best shot I’ve ever seen.”

Today, a plaque still marks the exact spot where Seve’s Great Escape took place.
