🩷 On behalf of everyone here at the School of Fashion Design, we are heartbroken to learn of Jo Somers' passing.
💛 Jo championed so many young designers and students, as well as SFD through her leadership and friendship, and will be greatly missed by all of us.
🩵 Jo Somers was the founder and former President of Copley Seven Models & Talent, former instructor and Trustee of the School of Fashion Design, long time Bay Village resident, and a celebrated Boston fashion icon who wore and championed numerous local Boston designers.
🧡 In 2014, Jo was awarded the School of Fashion Design "Isobel S. Sinesi Lifetime Achievement in Fashion" award. Jo also established the Jo Somers Bay Village Scholarship to support School of Fashion Design students, which continues to support aspiring SFD student designers to this day. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @sfdbos

📖 We're delighted that our community came out in great numbers for our author's talk with Anne Marie Murphy for the release of her latest book, "A Proper Fit: Women at Work in a City of Corsets"!
🧵 Historical fashion research like Anne Marie's is such important work as it examines the history of garment making skills and its evolution throughout time!
🪡 These collaborative opportunities are a great reminder of where those skills came from, the importance of preservation, and the necessity in keeping them alive for future generations.
🏫 SFD's work is to preserve those comprehensive technical skills by educating students in the complete fashion design process, combining traditional techniques with modern practices!
