Do you have CalFresh? To keep getting your food benefits, you may need to participate in work-related activities when you renew your CalFresh due to new federal rules.

These rules apply to adults 18 - 64 years old, who are able to work, and do not live with a child under the age of 14.

Learn more at our website: sfhsa.org/KeepCalFresh, and please share this with your network!

What’s changing with CalFresh?

Due to recent federal government changes, starting June 1st, there will be new work requirements for some CalFresh recipients.

If you’re between 18 and 64 and don’t have kids under 14 living with you, here’s what you need to know.

To keep getting CalFresh, you will need to do one of these things each month: work, volunteer, do community service, or take part in a job training program. If you don’t, your benefits will stop after three months.

But don’t worry! Many people are exempt.

If you’re 65 or older, pregnant, or receiving disability benefits these rules don’t apply to you.

We’re here to help.

Call us at 855-355-5757 or visit our website at sfhsa.org to learn if you qualify for an exemption or to connect with more resources.

And please remember to renew your CalFresh benefits!

Join us for an in‑depth conversation with Trent Rhorer, Executive Director of the San Francisco Human Services Agency (HSA), as we explore the programs, policies, and personal experiences that shape the city’s safety net for more than 275,000 residents each year. Trent shares his journey from growing up in Sacramento to leading one of San Francisco’s most impactful public agencies. He reflects on the early career moments that pulled him toward public service, the transformation of child welfare and foster care in the city, and the innovations that have helped thousands of families gain access to food assistance, health care, and supportive services.

We also look at the challenges posed by HR1 and how San Francisco is responding to protect Medi‑Cal and CalFresh recipients. Trent talks about the creation of the CalFresh Community Works program, the launch of the Mobile Benefits Center, and the city’s commitment to ensuring benefits are accessible to those who need them most. This episode offers an inside look at the human stories, policy decisions, and community partnerships that keep San Francisco’s safety net strong.

Happy Filipino American History Month!

This month commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the United States on October 18, 1587, in Morro Bay, California.

Filipino Americans are the second largest Asian American and Pacific Islander group in the country.

In San Francisco, SoMa is home to the largest Filipino community in the City and is recognized as a cultural district celebrating Filipino heritage.✨

From arts and activism to caregiving and community leadership, Filipino Americans have helped shape the heart of our city.

At SFHSA, we celebrate this legacy not just in October but all year long. 💛 by @sfhumanservices
